Yeah - I know. Already finished NWN2 with my typical first-time-through Pally.

The "Final Battle" is easy with nearly any class (well, a 4 wizard + 4 sorceror + 4 druid could get problems ) if you know what you need to do.
True - I knew exactly what I was doing this time.

My SoU character is a level 5 wizard. Should I multiclass? If so, which class do you recommend?

Well why draw the line there?

The most benefit you get from UMD is to be able to use cross class equipment. But classes are balanced in one way or the other, and UMD voids this balance.

Take for example Boots of the Sun Soul. They're designed to give monks a bit more AC to get even with the plate, shield and armor bracers wearing crowd. They're NOT designed to give the plate, shield and armor bracers wearing crowd yet more stacking AC only because they happen to have taken one or two bard or rogue levels.

Then why allow cunning multiclassing? The idea of multiclassing is to retain balance by making you give something up to gain something else, but we all know there are many combos that are almost pure gain. And I know you like finding them and using them.

Seems an arbitrary line to me.

Pointing at other existing flaws doesn't make a flaw better. Bad enough that there are pure gain combos. Unfortunately, NWN2 (3.5) tried to fix some of them while widely opening up others. And sure people, including me, will use them if they exist. That doesn't make them a good thing, however.

I choose not to take UMD, shrug. It's my way to play, especially in an SP environment. Competitive MP is another thing, but still doesn't justify such imbalances, only excuses their usage not to get in disadvantage. You can play as you please. You seem to have other preferences anyway.

Use Magic Devices - let's you use other classes items.

I didn't say it did: I asked you to justify a stance of happily exploiting some flaws whilst deciding against others. I'm still waiting btw.

What flaws am I particularly exploiting?

And concerning UMD - I consider it to be so overpowered, that I don't even take it as pure rogue.

And in SoU/HotU are other skills more important, for those who know the modules. A Bd/F/RDD build is pretty low on skill points, and there are so many more skills of use. Maxed Discipline is a must as meleer in NWN1. Spot comes handy as there are absolutely scores of secret doors in both modules, some with a pretty nasty DC too. A few ranks of search, if you don't like to stomp in too maky traps (and there is a trap disabling henchman only in SoU). The Lore ranks RDD demands. Where take the points for UMD from?

Multiclassing to get gains with no real cost.
