              • Clues

The clues were based on five main associations

                1) The ‘cop’ in Fred Piscop. Anyone clicking on the ‘cop’ (slang)theme would have found the other clues confirming the detection.
                2) Wild West / cowboy hints – I so wanted to include excerpts from ‘Bungalow Bill’ in the introductory song , but someone would easily have linked Bungalow Bill with Buffalo Bill and then to cowboy. If they didn’t, poor Will9 would have been an unintentional victim for docpiling. (Likewise I had to avoid easy references to Bill Hickock, Bill Cody and Billy the Kid). So the cowboy references were more hidden.
                3) Spaced Cowboy clues: late in the game but references to Galactic Cowboys’ songs.
                4) The Irish Band themes ie Macnamaras band. (Fred Piscop’s website) eg whiskey
                (Irish spelling).
                5) Seven deadly sins: Mostly used in one setting: Fred being asked 7 down. But other uses of seven were intentional.

Clues re Fred Piscop with the emphasis on ‘cop’ (police)

Ice Plod – taking a cue from Duke’s parting shot ‘case badly policed’ (docpile)
Plod being a slang word for ‘cop’. Opportunistic here.

From the song (from Sweeney Todd the Demon Barber) in gluttons for punishment.
The Sweeney is shorthand cockney rhyming slang for cops – ie Sweeney Todd – the Flying squad (UK)
From Craig Kaspers death ‘So bear with me – Bear – slang cop
less than 5.0 seconds, 5.0 is from Hawaii Five O slang again
the white heat – reference the heat – slang again
Great Scott’ said Merle Reagle. ‘At least I don’t have to sweep somebody up this time’ said Jon. ‘Nor will we need a paddywagon’. Reference to Paddy’s (as Noel) death but also to slang for cop vehicle and hint of Irish connection

Clues re Spaced Cowboy re Cowboy themes
‘Rage n’ (as in Raging) - as in Raging Bull which leads to cattle which leads to cowboy.
the range of questions – range as in 'open range'.
AN’s death ‘Bullsh*t’ said A.N (8). – as above – Bull leads to cattle leads to cowboy.
Craig Kaspers death - local calamity – first of the famous wild west references – Calamity Jane

From Noel Jessop’s death - our little local calamity‘. Ok I’ll need a holiday. Calamity (Jane) again; The OK (corral); (Doc) holiday..
Ok kids ( reference to Billy the Kid and Sundance Kid)
                Other Clues
Noel Jessop’s death …..was a satellite glitch – first hint of space = spaced
Merle Reagles death : As it happens there was another satellite glitch = as above

                More clues
’Stop the Band’ - a reference to macnamarasband , Fred Piscop’s own website at
www. macnamarasband .com. This clue was always mentioned through all the poisonings.

Also Fred, 7 down – Fred always seem to be mostly asked the clue 7 Down throughout the contest – A reference to the 7 deadly sins.

Mark Kelmanson death - knowledge of the banned (sounds like Band)– re macnamarasband again

From Noel Jessop’ s death ‘Ok stop the band’ said Stephen ‘At least it wasn’t the ‘dead march’ from Saul. This was a major clue from the lyrics of Macnamaras band.
‘’We play at wakes and weddings, and at every county ball,
And at any great man's funeral we play the "Dead March in Saul,"
Also from Noel Jessops death - ‘What’s that Manny? You’re in a band. What ? Oh I see you’re banned.

From Will Shortz death: Then Fred Piscop jumping on the band wagon

…can I have a whiskey’.- hint at Irish connection again. Whiskey is the Irish spelling.

Galactic Cowboy song titles mostly from Merle Reagle’s death
                media slant
                I can’t wait

                ‘Manny speak to me
‘Nothing to say eh! ‘said Stephen.

In summary, if you had an inclination as to who was the mafia, you would have found lots of other confirmation.

                  • In games past, people would have picked up on things like 7 down and stop the band.

Let's acknowledge that the game needs detectives to work properly. The survivors generally shouldn't be killing the detectives, that's the mafia's job.

But I hope there are not other agendas in the game.

                    That's what happened to GO.

                        2) Wild West / cowboy hints – I so wanted to include excerpts from ‘Bungalow Bill’ in the introductory song , but someone would easily have linked Bungalow Bill with Buffalo Bill and then to cowboy. cant see how bungalow bill would lead to buffalo bill. but then again i not american so would never think of buffalo bill. bungalow bil lwould lead me to think o fthe beatles , john lennon and therefore a hint at jonny.

                        3) Spaced Cowboy clues: late in the game but references to Galactic Cowboys’ songs.
unfortunatly by late in game i had seen no constant clue in the songs and so ignored the songs as the clues, once a section of the story text has inconsistencies in it i tend to ignore it as a red herring, i was googling all the songs at start,

                        4) The Irish Band themes ie Macnamaras band. (Fred Piscop’s website) .
again as above, if every song was an irish band it would have hinted at something irish, and seeing as no indiocation that Piscop is irish i would have missed that too and gone down the worng track
                        eg whiskey (Irish spelling).
No this is hte correct spelling not the american way

                        5) Seven deadly sins: Mostly used in one setting: Fred being asked 7 down. But other uses of seven were intentional.
how does this link to Spaced cowboy or Piscop? I am lost as to the 7 link

                        • Of course there are: 1 across, 1 down, 5 across, 4 down

In a real crossword, the down clues tie in with across clues.

That's not the point here. The point is the '7'. whether across or down.

The heading Lust.. should be enough to alert people to a seven deadly sin theme, especially with Gluttony.. next.

                            • In the final killing I mentioned 'Idle Minds' .

I googlied it earlier and found references to Galactic Cowboys on the second page. A dead giveaway; so I didn't include it earlier.

otoh 'dead march' in Saul (from Saul) got well buried unless you googlied macnamara.

As I intended to ask earlier, did anyone google Fred Wiscop?.

                              • Another observation.

In previous games 'dead players' (and I am no exception to this) sometimes had a tendency to point to clues they felt relevant., in order to influence the remaining/surviving players regarding their decisions.

So that too has to be taken into consideration.

And finally, Ras, your decisive choice last game, made me more careful/ less carefree this game.
