I pwn j00 all at watching TV!

And honestly, I think the only MMOs where I couldn't watch TV were CoH and GW.

Again, that isn't something to brag about.
Skanky read the post I quoted and was responding to. I am not getting it the wrong way around - I am merely repeating what an Eve player said! It's very clear:

Why not have something interesting to do.
In no sane world can you equate this to either of the points you and Con are making. It's quite clearly saying that certain activities are boring, therefore you may as well have something else to do, NOT that sometimes you have other RL commitments so low maintenance gameplay is welcome.

As I said above, no problem with the latter point, and if indeed there is some limited strategy behind afking then all the better.

For me, EVE is the best MMO out there right now. I much prefer sandbox/skill based games over guided/level based ones, in fact, I can honestly say I have played enough level based MMO games to last a lifetime. And EVE, IMO, is the most open, freeform sandbax to date.

I like EVE because I can do virtually anything. In EVE, it is not the game mechanics that limit possibilities nearly as much as it is the imagination of the player.

EVE is a deep, thought provoking game with layer upon layer of strategy. EVE is a dangerous world where you will either sink or swim. EVE is (IMO) the best there is!

That would be true, were you required to do all aspects of the game at some point in time. It isn't. For example, mining is boring, therefore I don't mine. Of course, it is still available to me to do if I had something else to do at the same time. So what if other aspects can be boring at times too? The fact remains that you can not do certain activities in Eve while watching TV or such, at least not if you want to keep a ship around your pod. So I stand by my statement. People choose that gameplay because they can do something else at the same time.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

I would go as far to say there are actually a very limited amount of things you can do in game afk without getting your ship destroyed or podded...............

This may or may not be correct but (again!) is a different point to the one Jon made and I was responding to.

No, I post on apolyton or chat when I do couriers or easy missions (two fo the things that don't require a ton of attention).

My point is that grind is always boring, why not be able to do something else during grind?

PvP or other more intense stuff requires all your attention.
