Hmm, sometimes the tutorial missions are all done, because they are shared. Later missions aren't, so you should be the only one who can easily get into it and do it.

They are going to add planet interactions, probably in a year.

Estimated time to be a competinent pilot (Character skill wise):
    Dread: 8+ months
    Sniper BS: 6+ months
    BS: 4-5 months
    BC: 2-3 months
    Basic Cruiser: 1 month
    Basic Frigate: 1-2 weeks
Command Ship: 4-5 months (I haven't explored this option at all, so I could be off some)
    Advanced Cruiser: 4-5 months
    Advanced Frigate: 2 months

Was there a warp acceletator there? I know a few people who have gotten tricked by that. If so, you need to fly within 2.5km of it and then activate it. This will warp you to the actual location of the ship you have to kill. That or it could be as JM said. Its been a while since I did the tutorial.

Yes there was a warp accelator, I did use it, a few times, yes it does take me to a place with pirates, but I killed them all; mission still not completed.

Oh well.. doesn't matter, will try to play a bit more tonight in hopes of getting hooked.

Check what the mission requirements are for completing the mission. Some you need to destroy a building, some are multi-part where there are 2nd or 3rd warp accelerator. Most missions (where you don't get killed) are difficult to actually fail, unless you have a habit of targetting cans and blowing them up.

EVE Online is good because you can do whatever you want, when you want.

and skills and ship fittings are important, but I was ninja mining (sucessfully) Jaspet, my first weekend in the game, and made a lot of ISK doing so at least for a n00b.

Its basically the only good "sandbox" game out there, as far as I know anymore in the same genre as Ultima Online and Star Wars Galaxies (Pre-CU).

Thats what makes it a great game.

My PvP character has at least another 7 months... but I want him to be able to fly Dreads as well as T2 fitted BC, BS, and Advanced Frigates.

The idea is that I would transfer him to my main account when I got the skills I desire. I am not certain about that right now.

Btw, join the "Counterglow" channel. There are sometimes people hanging out there that can help you with questions or whatever.

Also, what is your in-game name?

(note, most people on the Counterglow website don't play EVE and don't care that you do)

I currently play 4 MMO's (all free online browser games) but I would consider playing one that I had to pay for, but the PvP of any game doesn't interest me, and for the matter, battles arn't something I am terribly interested in (all four of the MMO's I play can involve battling if you choose, but if you choose not to, you are perfectly able to grow through other means).

It seems from reading the above that Eve is more like a Diablo type of game in that you move you player around the game, that isn't something I am interested in, is this a significant part of the game?

I am more interested in the strategy of any game then in the 'action' or graphics.

                    Also, what's the monthly cost?

By "moving around", you mean flying around in a ship? Yes, that does happen. How much it occurs and for what duration really depends on how you want to play. For mission runners, you will generally get missions in the same system or 1 system over, which equates to 2 minutes of warping. For traders, half an hour or an hour of travel isn't unheard of. Ratting has you warping from asteroid belt to asteroid belt, which is more like prowling than actually moving. Industrialists can potentially play the game from station, paying others to haul minerals in, as can people playing the stockmarket.

As to whether any of the play styles will suit you, only you can tell.

It costs $US 14.95 monthly, less per month if you subscribe for longer periods of time (like 3 months, 6 months, a year etc).

By "moving around" I meant actively controling the movement of your ship. To use ogame (you do remember ocrack right? ) as an example, you send you ships out and don't have to do anything else but wait for them to arrive at their target. I used diablo as a comparison earlier as you have to use some method (mouse or arrows on keyboard) to "move" your character. If Eve involves having to physically sit at my computer to move (steer) my ship, it doesn't interest me. Most of my online time isn't that active, I will be watching TV or doing something else on the computer, I don't want to be "actively" playing any game but rather returning regularly to see the update and any progress I have made.

Does that make more sense as to what I am asking?

Its not a click-fest like Diablo, nor do you have no activity for hours at a time. Kill missions can be started and then left with you tanking and your drones killing things (start a Gallente character if you want to kill things and be lazy - they like drones). Courier missions can be done afk with checking back every 15min or so while flying on autopilot (as long as you stick to hi-security space). Mining can be done checking back every few minutes to drop your new ore in a can so your cargo hold doesn't fill up (these brackets intentionally left blank). Eve can be played without constantly checking up on it, if you are willing to accept the risks.

EVE is about the most unDiablo like of all the (Standard) MMOs.

In fact, a lot of people watch TV or something while they do courier missions and mining. Some even when they do kill missions.

That always amuses me when coming from Eve fanboys - this game is so good and you can watch TV whilst playing it!
