Jon, I think I have to hit level 10 before I can shapeshift into a bear or cat.

Btw, are there any good sites which give you strategies? The official site is great for background info, but they aren't going to tell you which is good and which is bad and stuff.

The wow general is a great place for comic relief though. I do post there occasionally, but on any given day you can get a belly laugh from the do-do's there.

Their site is really bad from a functionality standpoint (for such a big developer, Apolyton is much better)but the classes and professions forums have some useful stickies.
While there might be a physics engine that applies to the jugs, I doubt that an entire engine was written specifically for the funbags. - Cyclotron - debating the pressing issue of boobies in games.

Imran, the general thinking is that it is quite expensive to level any crafting profession. And the rewards you get for it can be quite small. Exceptions would be if you get lucky and get a rare recipe. Then you would be able to sell your crafted stuff for quite high prices (fees of up to a 100g for rare armor/enchants is quite common on my server).

The downside to that is that almost all of the rare recipes drop in the high end raid dungeons such as Molten Core, Blackwing Lair, Ahn Qiraj etc. And if you are in those, chances are that you will get your armor as drops there (in fact that is more than likely), so why would you need a crafting profession?

Blacksmithing, tailoring and leatherworking are useful for making resistance gear for the high end dungeons. On the lower levels they can be useful for supplying yourself with armor, but as you yourself said: "Why not just buy it?"

The only worthwhile crafting profession that I can think of that would be able to give you a steady income is enchanting: Everyone in the game want enchants. And everyone is willing to pay for them. Even the lower level enchants can easily supply you with money as you level. If you are really smart, you take tailoring to go with it. Then you can make magic items with your tailoring skill, and then disenchant them with your enchanting skill to get the materials you need to do the enchants. If you do that right, it is possible to make money from day 1.

Oh..and another, however unrelated, advice would be: Check out the various guilds on your server. Use wowwiki to find their websites, and do some work in checking them out. Then pick a few guilds that seem worthwhile, and all the way as you level, make a point of partying with ppl from those guilds. Then when you hit level 60, you can more or less chose which guild you want to be in. This can carry huge benefits if you chose to stick with the game, and pursue then end-game goals (epic armour, high end dungeons, high end PvP etc.)

So, good luck to you m8 :-)

Wow.. lots of good info there . Thanks!

I haven't partied with anyone else yet, but I'm sure that'll come eventually . I want to hit lvl 10 and get the bear ability first, I think.

Perhaps I'll go with skinning and tailoring after all. Should be an interesting life . I've heard enchanting is a skill that takes a lot of patience, but can be very lucrative in the long run.

You can download it, and ask somebody else to give you a cd key which will actually save them money too if you activate it.
(For example, I will gladly give you one if you need one)

I downloaded the Wow free trial package and then when I began to install it, it immediately gave me the warning that my Dell Inspiron 9300 Laptop does not meet the minimum CPU speed requirement, which, for Wow is 800 Mhz.

My laptop has a Pentium M at 1.8 Ghz and 1.0 GB RAM. If 1.8 Ghz is not my CPU speed, I forgot where I go to find this out on my computer.

By the way, enchanting sucks and best to avoid it.

Yeah, from what I have seen enchanting is one of the worst money sinks in the game. Alchemy and Engineering provides real advantages. Gathering proffessions (especially Mining) make money.

But the others for the most part are money losses..

Don;t keep it open too long or you will have to go back to earlier zones to level up.
                      Not a huge deal.
As other ppl said, the best way to make easy little money is gathering skills.
That's what I reccoment for first characters.
In the end-game, crafting can rake lots of money but you need to invest a lot to get to that point.

Well, just a few minutes ago, I opened and started the installation process again and this time I got no warning about not meeting minimum requirements.

As of right now, I'm installing WoW. Who would be able to provide me a free trial of Guild Wars? I contacted Jamski via PM one or two days ago, but he hasn't gotten back to me.

Hmm, didn't realize there any others on the Argent Dawn server from Apolyton/MZO - thought our alliance guild had most of them

Yeah, I'd go with gathering professions - skinning is good for money but less so at level 60 perhaps.

Herbalism is very good for money (most end game herbs are 13-20 gold per stack of 20 on the Auction House)

Alchemy is also decent as you will use a lot of the potions as well as sell a decent amount (and you can max at 300 by the time you are level 35 unlike the other crafting professions

Tailoring is also a good crafting profession for a new character as it will get you some very needed bags.

Mining is good for money as well - but a real pain to battle the chinese gold farmers for those rich thorium veins in the end game areas.

Avoid Blacksmithing at all costs - it is a money pit that isn't worth it most times.

Engineering is just plain fun but you need mining and a lot of other stuff from other professions for it.

Leatherworking is somewhat useful for upgrading lower pieces of leather into higher ones but is almost as bad as blacksmithing otherwise.

Enchanting has its purposes but is by far the most expensive profession well above the next most expensive which is probably blacksmithing. (Actually it isn't that expensive exactly but the total amount of green and blue items that you have to destroy to advance in it would sell for thousands of gold even if you sold them to vendors)

As far as the classes go (I've levelled 4 classes to 60 and a 5th into the 50s so far), hunter is probably the easiest class to start with, priest is harder but really wanted for groups -warrior is also wanted re tanking but requires a lot of gear to be a good tank, rogues are also a good beginners class and fun until the end-game 40 man instances, druids are jacks of all trades but are average at best in all of them - avoid a warlock until you have a lot more experience as they are one of the tougher classes to play. Mages are fun but die a lot. Shamans I haven't played much of but they are strong. Paladins don't die much but are reaalllly slow to kill things...

                                Lots of good info

I'm a level 8 Druid now (haven't played all that much in the last two days). I got skinning and did a little bit. Sold some of my skins to the vendors (I realize I can probably get more from other players, but I have no idea how much these things are supposed to cost, and for the most part I've avoided others until I feel I have a good grasp on the gameworld).

I'm thinking tailoring may be next. Though I already (perhaps foolishly) spent some silvers on a 6 slot bag. I was getting tired of the spaces in the original.

I guess once I get through most of the newb area, I can start actually multiplaying . I had to reject a duel and partner up (not from the same person ) because I was trying to get a quest done because I only had like an hour or so for playing.
