All through today I have heard of this space game. Is it to late to join. Anticipating acceptance, Ivan von Kristof, and sent in orders via a private message to the Game Master.

In this case, Joncha, I'd really like an explanation for why build queues, default orders, and "build all laser cruisers" are not acceptable. I don't recall GMs refusing any of the above in the past, and all three are pretty reasonable requests, and certainly standard for every other forum game.
Queues can greatly simplify order processing, as they speed up the game by getting in a number of orders in ahead of time. They also allow players who have inconsistent access to the internet to play, enhancing and expanding the player pool.
Build all X is not complicated for the GM to understand, and perfectly reasonable for players, particularly newer players who may not understand the game as well as veterans. It takes NO additional work for the GM; either way the GM has to figure out X*3 or Y/3, only once...
Default orders, though, are the most inane to disallow. Why a default OOB and not default orders? Both have one and only one purpose: to ensure that a player has legal (orders/oob) to follow if the player cannot or does not submit orders in a timely fashion. That's the one and only reason for either one, and there is no rational justification for eliminating either. You're penalized enough simply because you are stuck with what may be inappropriate orders or OOB; why take the game out of the player's hands and penalize them further?
It takes very little effort for you as a player to send it a set of valid orders every round. Allowing a default OoB is a concession, so that in the worst case scenario (after invalid orders or an UDWOT or something) a player won't be automatically eliminated.
The same is NOT true for default orders and build queues. Those are crutches for lazy players. The GM has more than enough work already processing turns and posting timely updates. The VERY LEAST a player can do is send in valid orders before each deadline. If you can't manage one PM every 48 hours or so, then frankly you deserve the UDWOT.
This is the list of GO players sorted according to their EQ (Event Quotient). An EQ is the likelihood a player will stick to an Eventian ally at all costs, ignoring his own victory chances. An EQ of 100 means total loyalty to the Eventian cause and unquestionable obedience to their ring leader joncha. An EQ of 0 means complete disdain toward Eventis and outright dismissal of anything associated with them.
An EQ gets increased by associating yourself with a player with higher EQ than yours. Actions such as participation in a 3-way solely Eventian alliance greatly increase the EQ of all participants. Cheering Eventians or simply liking them also increases your EQ, as does refusing to acknowledge the existence of their guild.
An EQ gets decreased by attacking an Eventian. An EQ gets decreased by denouncing Eventians publicly in the threads. An EQ gets greatly decreased by betraying an Eventian.

Not every player can be present for every 48 hour period. Sometimes work (or school) intervenes, and therefore one will be forced to miss a turn due to things rather more important than GO.
Therefore default orders and build queues. Neither is particularly suited for GO, so using either is a pretty substantial penalty ... anyone who's dumb enough to rely on a "crutch" of default orders won't last five rounds anyway. However, there's no reason to penalize someone for having work or school that quite obviously takes precedence.
Basically, it comes down to, is your *intent* as GM to penalize people, or to facilitate the game? I think i'm one of the more common GMs of FGs in this forum, and I certainly don't think it's an imposition for the GM to have these orders. If you don't want to do the work to GM properly, don't do it ... but a GM should be a facilitator, not a punitive dictator. That's the point of the GM, or should be. Otherwise, if you desire the power of affecting the outcome of the game ... play.
Anyhow, this is mostly irrelevant, as I highly doubt any of us are going to change our minds, and I'm certainly not going to rely on any crutches for this game
