Civilization IV Expansion Pack Announced
The huge game is about to get bigger.

March 16, 2006 - 2K Games revealed today that Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Warlords is in development for the PC. Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Warlords is an expansion pack for the smash hit Civilization IV which was rated as the PC Game of the Year by IGN.
Warlords, which will require the full version of Sid Meier's Civilization IV to run, gives players six new scenarios and provides the opportunity to change history through the use of the all new "warlord" unit. The expansion pack also features new civilizations, leaders, units, resources, and wonders for use in single and multiplayer games.
"We're very happy with the success of Civilization IV," said Sid Meier, Director of Creative Development for Firaxis Games. "Within days of its release, gamers around the world were fully addicted, staying up late at night and just hoping for 'one more turn'...what could be better! Warlords will feed that addiction with more of everything gamers want."

Sid Meier returns for a new strategy game.

March 16, 2006 - 2K Games announced today the next game in the Railroad Tycoon franchise, Sid Meier's Railroads! The latest in the strategy and simulation series is in development for the PC and will be released this fall.
Sid Meier's Railroads! puts the player in charge of building a railroad empire and provides the opportunity to design track and shipping routes as well as to carry new goods as far as the tracks will take them. Railroads! promises to offer numerous scenarios to complete and gameplay modes, including real-time LAN and Internet multiplayer gaming.
"We're thrilled to have the opportunity to bring this game back home," said Sid Meier, Director of Creative Development for Firaxis Games. "Railroads is near and dear to our hearts and we're looking forward to delivering the endlessly fun gameplay experience fans of our games have come to expect."

New city building game coming this summer.

March 16, 2006 - 2K Games announced today that CivCity: Rome is in development and will be released this summer for the PC. CivCity: Rome is a city building strategy game in the vein of Sid Meier's Civilization and is being developed by Firefly Studios in collaboration with Firaxis Games.
CivCity: Rome allows gamers to recreate Rome by taking a small village and building it into the historic center of an empire. The game will feature hundreds of buildings ranging from amphitheatres to workshops and everything in between.
"Firefly Studios has always been at the forefront of the city building strategy genre," said Christoph Hartmann, Managing Director of 2K Games. "The unprecedented collaboration between Firaxis and Firefly Studios will allow gamers to see the world of ancient Rome unfold before their eyes."

Yeah. Both CivCity and the Civ4expansion are to be out this summer. Gamestats just gave them a 8/30 date because it is the end of the summer. Railroads is supposed to be in the fall. Thus it got a date in the fall."Yay Apoc!!!!!!!" - bipolarbear

Well, Firaxis is really only working on the Civ4 expansion. They typically work on expansions pretty much right after game release so that's not surprising. Railroads is really being made by Poptop and CivCity by Firefly. They are just kinda under the Firaxis banner. They probably have been under development for a while. CivCity probably uses some of the Stronghold engine so it wasn't too difficult to make up to that level.
Firaxis has pretty much two development teams though. For this reason, there is most likely a 4th game that hasn't been announced yet."Yay Apoc!!!!!!!" - bipolarbear
