Cool! Thanks, Asher. Any idea why the print screen kludge doesn't work with Oblivion?

        • Print Screen (as it is built into Windows) doesn't work with DirectX and OpenGL games. In some games this works, but it's because the developer specifically added the functionality that dumps the framebuffer to disk (which is what FRAPS can do in all DirectX/OpenGL games).

          • I see. Gee, Asher, I wish you'd actually brush up on this stuff, though. Seriously, it's odd that something as good looking as Oblivion wouldn't have the functionality built in, right? Are they worried people sitting on the fence about buying the game would say:

"Hey, Ralph just sent me a screenshot. Looks TOO awesome for me. Think I'll pass."

            • You can't print screen with xboxes so they weren't going to put it in Oblivion.

              • Hey, guys...does anyone know yet whether you can leap 30 feet into the air with high acrobatics/athletics and low encumbrance? My favorite character in Morrowind relied on this ability to escape bad situations as he had no armor. It was a good reason not to carry heavy armor and weapons as this would significantly reduce his leaping ability. He could also climb near-vertical slopes...

He was mighty fun to play.....leaping onto nearby ledges or roofs or somesuch and filling the monster(s) with his arrows....

LOL! You can't use my mouse on the XBox, either.

Apparently, from asking on other forums, you have to move your mouse downwards until you get a cursor.

                    • Whoa! I sat down and played seven hours straight. The last game to do this to me was... I don't remember, actually. My one and only gripe so far is that the whole "OMG STEAL" thing should be more lenient and go away if you drop the item in a few seconds. When all that stuff is on the table and you are aiming at the shopkeeper, I've already twice ended up reloading my autosave because the guard has come to demand a fine.

In the same vein, I was riding with these two npcs who were also on horses from a city to another (it's part of the plot, and the two npcs trust me quite a lot story-wise already).

The three of us met a wolf and everyone dismounted to kill it. (Well the npcs did and I followed to help them.) I tried to loot the wolf but accidantelly hit space when my target was the horse of one of the npcs.

"Guards! We have a burglar!" they shouted in the middle of wilderness and then proceeded to kill me.
Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all!

Yeah, it needs to be more lenient.

A few times now I've walked around in "sneak" mode (it's not that slow for my character, and levels my sneak ability), but I went up to talk to someone and it defaults to "pickpocket". :/

                          • It seems like you can actually hit a "friend" by accident a few times before they turn on you, right? Good to know that the stealing stuff is super strict.

                            • I'm sure the reason for its strictness was because how loose it was in Morrowind, where you could basically do anything and get away with it.

Yeah, thankfully. A lot of times the NPCs get in the way and take a beating. Never had them turn on me yet.
