      • The little bit I played last night, I liked the interface also. Some of the whining seems to be the inability to rearrange the items in the inventory.

I am still exploring the opening dungeon, but enjoyed what I saw last night.

        • Me too. I never really thought of myself as a PC zealot or an anti-console person, but it transpires that I am very opposed to consoles, after all.
Next you'll say we should have our own schools. You anti-console bastard!

            • Thanks for the reply, Imran. I guess I was taking some of those negatory posts a little too seriously. Part of the reason why I posted these questions over here on this forum, hehe.

Silver, that is a great story. Looks like a game I gotta go get. Soon as I finish playing CivIV....

              and GalCiv II...

              and GuildWars...

              sigh....

              • Yeah, Garret, a lot of those negative posts are insane. They are almost as bad as those complaining about CivIV. And they've been quicker than the CivIV complainers to say they are going to the Attorney General of their states with their complaints that the game doesn't work on their systems.

That official forum is a really scary place to be if you haven't gotten the game yet, but funny if you have and can run it.

There are some valid complaints... you can't name your save games, the interface does take more clicks to go through it all, but no where near the catastrophe the official boards are claiming.

                • Well, reading the forums, it does seem like there's been a screwup. GeForce FX cards are listed as supported, but it apparently turned out that Oblivion does, in fact, not run on FX cards.

If so, I'd say it's a far worse problem than what Civ4 had. Civ4 didn't run on some ATI cards, yes, but it ran on many, while if Oblivion doesn't run at all on the several cards listed as supported, then, well...

I'd be pissed if a game didn't run on my PC. The only game I couldn't ever get to run on my PC was Risk 2. I took it back for store credit.

I've been pretty lucky so far. *knocks on wood*

But I'd be more pissed if this one doesn't run. Because it's a much better game.

It's pretty breathtaking as soon as you get out of the sewers.

                      • I got it yesterday, and put in about 6 hours of play last night. I LOVE it. There is a bit of justice in those posts on the official forums, but they're going to extremes. Not all the keys can be remapped. For example, to get to the map, you have to hit TAB to open the journal screen. Then you click on the compass bar at the bottom of the journal to go to the map/quest screen, then you click on a particular tab to open the local map or the province map. You cannot bind a key that will directly open the map screen. You cannot name your savegames. The province map is zoomed in, and cannot be zoomed out, nor can the window be expanded to be bigger. So, you kinda have to move the map around and try to find where you're planning on going. The UI remains huge, no matter what resolution you're playing at, also.

Most of the complaints are pretty minor irritation items rather than game breakers, and of course there will always be people who have technical difficulties that they insist are due to the game rather than their own system. However, even with my computer exploding over the weekend, it's running pretty good on my newly rebuilt (and not yet completed) system right now. I've only got 512 megs of ram in it at the moment (gotta wait for the dead stick to get back on the RMA, and the replacement stick to get to me). At the moment, I've got resolution set to 1024x768 and some of the draw distances at medium, but the other detail settings are cranked up to max. I've got a 6800 GS Superclocked AGP card that's been unlocked to run all pipelines (basically makes it a 6800 Ultra).

                          • Yes, at least it does for the regular Xbox 360 version.

Thats when I remembered the magic fire bolt spell - got off the horse and started to kill the ghosts. Hit one down then fired on the other - missed and set my horse on fire.

Forget about the ghosts, deadrea - the whole nine yards. Those horses have some hitpoints and can dish it out. Damn thing chased after me for awhile. Had to use some healing potions. Finally got it down in health so it started to flee. I gave chase only to have a wolf jump out between us and attack me. Delt with the wolf but the horse got away.

                              • How does the lack of minimap affect the game?
I relied on that in Morrowind.
