    I guess you're not a lawyer snoopy.

There are other provisions within the rules that exactly define all situations. Just read the smallprint.

      OK, I'll explain.

It says that all fleets with no OoB are destroyed unless both attacker and defender have no OoB or the defender has no ships, in which cases (both cases) the attacking fleet is not destroyed (but the defending is).

Then, later in the rules, you have: A destroyed fleet loses.

Therefore, the defender loses in these special cases.

So you just left the "defending fleet is destroyed" crap in there in the result of double no OOBs. Great. I thought that was something that was going to change...

Well, we can discuss it and if enough players wish that changed, we'll change it, of course.

Oh please no. That ruling blows IMHO. I think it'd be better for any attacking fleet without an OOB to return home, and any defending fleet without an OOB is destroyed. So then there is no silly situation where both attacking and defending fleets have no OOB (As the attacking wouldn't get there).

                  Quoted for agreement:

If you turn in an attack and no OOB, then no attack should occur regardless of the defender.
We're sorry, the voices in my head are not available at this time. Please try back again soon.

Exactly how I feel, also. If you're dumb/forgetful/whatever enough to send in an attack w/o OOB, you lose REGARDLESS OF THE DEFENDER. Regardless of defending FLEET existing, regardless of defending OOB existing.

It's essentially just an invalid order, the same as if you sent in "Use my counterspy on Kit Chuss", or asked to use a shield you don't have.

Can someone formulate that so we can have a vote?

                        Replace:

If the defender has at least one ship and specifies his OoB and the attacker does not specify his OoB, the entire attacking fleet is destroyed. If the defender has no ships, the attacker always wins. If the attacker with no OoB runs into a shield it will be assumed that his OoB was LFT-LFT.
                        with

If the Attacker does not submit an OOB, then his attack is called off. If the defender does not submit an OOB, but the Attacker does, the defending fleet is destroyed.
Basically, that's the Diplomacy rule on the matter, and a reasonable one by my book - NMR means you lose automatically, but a malformed order is never carried out regardless of anything else.

We don't need that running into shield part since the attack is called off.

If the Attacker does not submit an OOB, then his attack is called off. If the defender does not submit an OOB, but the Attacker does, the defending fleet is destroyed.

Hey, after reading last game i'm quite interested in this so sign me up aswell and lets hope i can survive more then a few turns against the alliances heh

question on the above rule change - if the attack is called off, does that fleet count as a defending fleet if the player is attacked by someone else, in which case he has no OoB and loses the fleet ? or is it "somewhere in space" ?

                              Good point, Ljube.

Laz, 'defending fleet' is defined only as "fleet that's under attack". So, if someone else attacks here, the defender with no OOB would be destroyed. Only the attack with no OOB is called off.

What i mean is if the player who tried to launch an attack but failed due to no OoB was himself attacked. Does his fleet return home and act as a defending fleet with no OoB and get destroyed ?
