Chapter 7 - Picnic at Hanging Rock
The joy of the previous evenings celebrations was completely gone. The survivors realsied they still had a killer amongst them. They gathered around the fire and discusssed their suspicions. The obvious nature of Skis used in a previous klling kpet pointing at Tuberski. He was sweating intensely as he listened to them all speak of him. A few other names came up but his was the one they kept coming back to. Finally the obvious decision was made, they all grabbed hold of poor old Tubs and threw him into the still raging fire. Tuberski's last words were, "This will not end with my death"
The survivors redrew sticks to replace Joncha's position on the raft and Skanky Burns was the lucky short stick drawer.
The whole group helped push the raft into the ocean and they sad their sad farewells and wished them luck.
The raftees raised the sail they had made and begun their excursion out to sea. They could find no easy way over the reef so sailed down the coast to find a pasage through. By late evening they realised that this reef might just encircle the whole island.
Suddenly the raft was hit from below, and then again and again. The amatuerish made raft began to break up. First Skanky fell overboard and then quickly followed by the other raftees as the whole raft broke apart and sank. Fortunately al lfour were good swimmers and they managed to drag themselves ashore. The ylooked out to sea but could not see what had sunk their raft.
They collapsed onto the sand in exhaustion but also in frustration at their failed attempt. A voice from up in the jungle brought them out of their misery.
Sparraowhawk was running to them and calling.
"Hey, you all ok?" he called.
The raftees could not believe that he was there. they questioned his presence.
"I saw you sailing down the coast so took the shortcut across the island and when i saw from up on hte hill you all fall into the sea i came running. I wil lrun bakc and get the others"
The raftees were too tired to object and Sparrowhawk headed off. He met the rest of the survivors coming back across the island
"We saw you disappear and we set out to follow you " yelled Paddy to Sparrow.
"The raft broke up they need help" yelled Spaarow back
They all the nran back to the beach where the raftees had landed but found no one there.
They begun searching and slowly they found each of the raftees except for Adagio. Night fell and darkness prevented further searching. The next day they searched again , and this continued for three days. Finally Adagio's body was found on the far side oif the islands beach. He had been pinned naked to the sands with sticks and twine. His whole body was red all over and blistered from the burning sun. Cause of death was heat stroke.
