  • Way better than mind control, try parasiting them.

If I remember right (it's been a long time) about the only way they could die would be if you killed them yourself, or if you were in MP and another player was aware of the possibility and killed it/blinded it.

I don't remember whether the AI knows to blind them or not.

Save the mind control for the SCVs and drones.

Yup, that was it. Actually they had a nice little base, where I thought id already taken them out. Perhaps I also left alive a "villie" or whatever the hell theyre called here, and he had sufficient minerals stockpiled to rebuild?

        • the best thing to do is to take over the upper right base, use the cheat code "staying alive", fortify it and survive the zerg rush. Not too difficult, but you need to park BC's over the zergling spawn point(eventually) or they pile up.

They're called Probes here, if I understand you correctly. And you can forget all your hamster-hopes too, BTW; the original name of the rebel chief is Arcturus Mengsk.

At the moment, I'm being frustrated by that damned "fifteen minutes to override" in BW Terran mission seven. I made it to the edge of the screen with the override in it once. I'm thinking of just skipping the stupid mission so I can go on to the eighth one (which I'm told has some actual strategy, as opposed to these lame strike-force ones that depend half on luck and your dumb troops not forgetting how to climb stairs at inopportune moments).

And I'm thinking I may actually go on to the Zerg after all. I'm no match for the non-campaign games, which actually have a decent AI, yet; plus it occurs to me that Lurkers might be a viable alternative to the Zerg defensive structures I hate so much. After all, I love defensive DTs, so...

                • Specifically, that unit's Line of Sight. Plus if it's a Detector, the Zerg can see anything cloaked near it. They see whatever that unit sees. And it can't be removed (until Brood War).

                  • And even in brood war it can only be removed if you are Terran, because you need a medic for it. Otherwise, you must either deal with it or kill/send away the unit.

                        • I finally seem to have got the hang of "The Hammer Falls" (the last terran scen in the original game) though ive havent quite finished the scen yet. Im leaning toward URs view now - in this scen the AI has lots of units and resources, and the only way to win is turtle up very carefully, and wait till youre really strong to come out. A tedious scenario indeed.

somehow i recall the AOE scenarios as somewhat more fluid. At least in AOE proper (never owned AOK) there was no fortification you could put troops in - walls and towers were good, but not the same. And since you needed 4 resources, you were more likely to be short of one - esp gold or stone - and need to expand to get it. And the campaign scenarios were more complex. Of course Im only on the first campaign of SC, and that could be part of the problem. I will admit the scen were you fight the protoss have to keep the Zerg alive was an interesting one.
