You're a graphics artist, you know how time intensive going 3D over 2D is often? I do love 3D games, my comment was more on the way it often tends to steal from the rest of the game in development. Sounds like CotN could have been a better game wearing 'pharoahs' graphics(which were very nice also), and fleshing out the gameplay elements?
Still i'm a bit of a stick-in-the-mud when it comes to strategy games and 3D. I cant think of many done well(or atleast better than their 2D counterparts).......or even any at this momment

Today i've mostly been playing Fire Emblem, its very fun to play, and the cartoony graphics dont do its serious strategy gameplay justice(although they are good in the typical manga way). The only gripe i have is in its very liniar story line approach - i dont think it will be one i'll come back to often after i've completed it.
But for a kidish 2D TBS(with japanese flavour) ive been surprised at how much i've enjoyed playing it
