  • I might take the tile under Holiday Island and build a monument to insanity. The kind of city that makes you wish there were laws against building such a city. As if a madman had designed a city that against all odds actually works. Concepts that should never escape from the lab / loony bin. Bwa ha ha ha ha.

    Thousand Isles 25

I've basically run out of land. Other than reclaiming farmland or ocean.

    Gross Income: 30K
    Budget Surplus: 9K
Finding something to spend it on: Hard.

    • To inject some life into this thread, in much the same way a necromancer injects unlife into the undead, I will document the progress of ALPHA OMEGA LAB!

First on the Agenda, ponying up some dough! After all, mad science is expensive! So I set to earning some good honest scratch.

The scrawled text serves to detract from the most important part, the ingenious COIN WRINGER. Sims return-commute doesn't count against commute time, hence they can be shuffled through DOzEns! of ToLL BOoths! And they don't even know they are being shafted! Bwa ha ha ha ha. And the most efficient way to do this is to loop them through avenues, so they pass through each toll booth twice! I'm so evil I should be lynched by an angry mob!

What do you get when you put a city of 52,000 sims through 24 toll booths? 50K a month

Having amassed a sizable fortune my next task will be deciding what the hell to do with it.

The first product from Alpha Omega Labs; a method to provide up to 35% more tin-hat penetration by blowing the radio waves over the city! Essential for those insidious mind control plots!

      • The coin wringer is a stroke of genius.

edit: I can't get it to work. The tiles refuse to lay properly. Did you use a cheat or file hack?

Nah, I'm just special. Getting used to the way one-way roads, avenues and toll booths need to be laid & connected takes quite a lot of practise.

If you connect the 1-ways to the avenue first, you wont be able to plop a toll booth where I have, you need to lay the avenue, plop the toll booth, re-lay the end of the avenue if nessecary, then connect the 1-way roads. It's a lot easier if you make it less compact, to make it as compact as I have is fairly tricky - not actually hard, just requires knowledge of the right order to do things to force the game to do what is needed. You also have to pay very close attention to the direction of the one way roads or it wont function.

More spread out (so all the one way roads are visible) it looks like this.

The big problem that I am having is that the one way roads simply will not connect to an avenue. The one ways will intersect perpindicularly, but they won't extend directly off of an avenue.

              • Hummm. Are you using NAM? (like the plugin file posted in this thread, or downloaded manually)

That explains it. I don't have the NAM plugin.

                  THANKS.

                  • This setup could also be built using just one way roads.

So what's all those wringed-out coins going to be used for?

                    • Toll Booths can't be placed on one-way roads.

Avenue toll capacity is 3600 (I think) while Roads are 600. Using the avenue twice still gives it effectively 3x the capacity.

Middle class population continued to surge, necessitating the conversion of the Export Zone into the Import Export Zone, which now features both factories and outlet malls.

Elsewhere on the island, Large Tenements and Project Feelgoods are being razed for market rate condos. Office construction continues on Propaganda Hill, where planners at DanS Global Worldwide International LLC eagerly await the latest devious news from Alpha Omega Island.

                        • Interest in this one seems to be fading.

Anyone up for a new game with extremely challenging terrain?

                          • Yup.

Possibly different NAM settings too, I would like BetterPathfinding WITHOUT increased capacities or commutes. Maybe 2x Capacity, since the defaults are a little low.

As for terrain, yeah, something with lots of mountains and stuff.

                            • My current idea is of deep gorges and mountains, with predominantly large tiles that have buildable areas equivalent to a medium tile.

Feel free to suggest cities with such terrain.

                              • So you're looking for a city built where no city should be built... hmmmm .

It's a pity that real hilly cities wouldn't really work well because of SC4 issues like fixed water height and the crapiness of building on slopes. Kind of need plains gouged with canyons and topped with some ridges.

What might work well from real world terrain is fjords or other areas ravaged by glaciers. Tho it can be hard to get detailed maps of such areas.

The best real world I know of (in my limited knowledge) is Wellignton of New Zealand, it's one hilly place! . There is actually already a greyscale on simtropolis.
