If you not in contact with a surface then you don't lose your acceleration, which can build up. It turned out (in Quake for instance) that control whilst in the air also impacts upon the physics........hence the role of strafing.

The ultimate bunny hops are in QuakeWorld and particualrly CPMA (a pro mod for Q3) where air control is maxed and speeds can reach truly outrageous levels if you are skilful enough.
true. and jumping has always been advantageous for many reasons. avoiding splash damage, rocket damage etc...

and in doom physics allowed shotguns to gain damage when you added velocity by turning rapidly. IIRC it was called swing shot or something. Back then when people were finding ways to enhance their plays like that were the best days of FPS IMO. Because it required players to think and experiment, like an abstract puzzle, and not expect realism to just happen like simulations.

you can see these as exploits in one way (and it is sort of true) but most of these "exploits" required you to perform it and it added depth to the gameplay. People who simply denounce it because they think its exploit, unrealistic or simply cause they cant do it... dont see that.

well those are not tactical team based MP FPS's... those are just mindless deathmatch fragfests...

    so who cares?
Example of dumb n00bs who cant recognize, adapt to different FPS system. ("If I cant play tactically in these games because i cant perform complex tactics and skills and they can.... it must be mindless!!!11!!!!")
    :-p

        • Hey, I already posted that video a while ago!

Did anyone try the 1.12 patch? I intended to play tonight (for the first time in a month or something), but didn't have the patience to download the 280 MB patch.

What does the patch do, except fix some bugs I've never heard of and add some guns I will never get rank for?

          • You did? FörlÃ¥t, for I did not see it. It only made across the Sea a little while ago.

I tried the new patch but now the game wont start at all! I will try reinstalling it shortly.

Hey, are any of you guys planning on getting the BF2: Special Forces expansion pack?

I'm getting the new patch right now, but I'm not sure if I want to buy the x-pack. I haven't played BF2 in a long time. I want to know if anyone here has played it. Is it any good?
Got it its decent with different maps and such

you have to download the program "Steam" and purchase Day of Defeat Source online... it is not available in stores yet... so you need a credit card... it is $19.95

I got Day of Defeat Source as part of the Half Life 2 Silver package...

They have something different now... check out the Steam website...

you can buy Day of Defeat Source seperately or get it with Half-Life 2...

but you can only get it online via Steam... it is not available in stores yet...

regular Day of Defeat is in stores... but this is the old version... not "Day of Defeat Source" which uses the Half-Life 2 engine.

                    • I just read on CSNation that this weekend, Day of Defeat Source will be available to play for free.

Steam is the ultimate destination for playing, discussing, and creating games.

So if you want Gramps, you can download it and try it on the weekend before you buy it.

                        • awesome...

after you install, I'll tell you how to get the "Friends Network" working... it's in Beta right now...

with Friends network, you can add people by their Steam account to a "buddies list" and it lets you know when they are logged on, etc... you can chat with them in game, see what game they are playing, what server they are on, etc...

on your desktop, your Steam shortcut, right click on it... click properties... where it says Target, copy the following and paste it outside the quotes after the "C:\Program Files\...\Steam.exe"

                          -clientbeta steam3friends -beta steam3friends

this will enable the Friends network so you can chat with people...

if you want, I can PM you my steam account information so you can add me... I'd like to play with you some time on a Day of Defeat Source server if you want to. One of my buddies and I play this game a lot, if you want to find a server with us and DOMINATE, you are welcome to join us some time.

We'll get on the same team and work together to defeat our enemies!

                          • Any of you know what the best way is to optimize the graphic performance in Call of Duty without losing too much eyecandy? I'm experience bloody annoying lags in the heat of battle (with a lot of combatants and/or inside buildings) and the automatic detection feature doesn't help jack. I've also read the readme file and hardware acceleration but either weren't helpful either.

                            I have a ATI Radeon 9800 BTW.

PS: awesome game. Got it today and I'm already in my 10th mission. (*trying* to defend the Pegasus Bridge from the German counterattack )

                                Buy a good graphics card.

Only kidding, the 9800 Pro is decent. Essentially, it's about priorities. For FPS every frame matters and you need to turn as many fancy graphics features off as possible. Then you should be ok.
