I was just thinking; the screenshots of the game all show the game as a very cartoony game, but with the power of modelling, you could turn this game into a very serious looking game. You could model humans, you could model buildings and vehicles with more a more realistic look and the game would seem to be a lot more serious, like the game Civilization.

I am really sceptical about spore.... how do you properly get the "jumps" right? How do you go from mono cell to multi cellugar, micro life to macro life? The macro life city building LOOKED like a typical RTS..... it is supposed to be revolutionary and unique but I don't see how it could possiby be coded to be such.... we'll see when it comes out I suppose. I am sceptical but if the hype is true, it should be great.

Of course Sid himself DID say that Simcity was one of the inspirations for Civilization.

i mean the cartoon (about "pee") is funny, I agree.

But Simcity basically started the citybuilding genre, no? From that came not only the next three Simcity games, but the 3 Caeasers, Pharoah, Zeus, COTN, 1602, etc, etc. No?

And Simcity inspired Civ, perhaps the greatest gaming franchise of all. And thus indirectly influenced the many Civ clones,a huge piece of the TBS market. Not to mention those RTS's influenced by Civ.

And I suspect that Simcity had a big influence on tycoon games in general.


And the Sims, while it has fewer games its influenced (Tropico?) is one of the most economically successful and popular game franchises.


I have little doubt whatever Wright comes up with will be either huge in its influence, a big commercial success, or both.

As hyped as I am for this game, I could see it possibly being an idea ahead of its time. The timing is definitely right, b ut if they don't execute it correctly then it will sort of be the "Paul's Boutique" of video games.

In the news today, God filed a 'Cease or Decease' suit against Will Wright, designer of the upcoming game titled Spore, for theft of intellectual property. Said God:

"The whole idea of cell to organism to land animals to space creatures (well, space creatures are coming in an expansion pack) was clearly mine. I also came up with the idea for pee as entertainment, though too few people really get my design concept on that one.

So I'm starting to get a bit upset here, especially now that Will Wright has more money than I do. And does anybody find the name a bit over the top? I mean, c'mon. It reminds me of bad porn names like Peter Strong and Gayle Force. "Will" as in Free Will, right? We get it. "Wright" as in, what? Wright of Way. Wright of Passage? He's Wright and I'm just God?

Even original sin was ORIGINAL!"
