  • I'm practically afraid to mention this site, given the incredibly scary posts on it, but the top part has some information on your question SR:

October 1st is what some sites list, though the official Will Wright Pee is that it will be "second half 2007".

Nintendo's portable system. Uses 2 screens, and one of them is touchable to move things around. So it's perfect for a game like Spore, where you, apparently, need to stretch and pull things to make your creatures.

I am the owner of a DS Lite, thank you very much, but how are they going to cram all of it in there? Will it require little enough space to fit on a game card that's something like 256 megabytes?

        • I don't know. I just know that they're making a DS version.

          • Is that confirmed? I thought they just mentioned it as an idea.

A Wii or DS version would be kickass and would probably be somewhat stripped-down but still kickass.

Procedurally-generated content should be a lot smaller than normal content.

              • GBA doesn't have the touch screen though.

Spore, My Sims confirmed for DS
Electronic Arts confirms Will Wright's evolutionary game is coming to Nintendo's dual-screen handheld, as is the Wii version of The Sims.

Just under a year ago, a job listing revealed that Electronic Arts was hiring developers for a portable version of Spore, Will Wright's forthcoming evolutionary game. Though the listing was clearly for "game systems and content for SPORE Handheld title," it did not say whether it would follow The Sims 2's lead and come to both the PSP and the DS.

Today during the conference call following Electronics Arts' third-quarter earnings report, executives from the publisher finally confirmed that Spore is coming to the DS as well as the PC. Speaking to analysts, EA CFO Warren Jenson said, "[With] Spore, we will be not only focusing on the PC and online; we are launching this innovative experience on the NDS." The game will be released sometime during EA's next fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2008.

Though no further details on the DS version of Spore were disclosed, DS fans got some other good news. The Wii version of the Sims, which features a more cartoony visual style, will be ported to the dual-screen handheld. Both games will go by the moniker My Sims and will also be released sometime during EA's coming fiscal year.

I think he meant the GBA port on the DS.

edit: I have no idea if a DS has a GBA port

i realize that, but how much nowadays could we fit into a gba cartridge? they have a four gig memory stick pro duo, for the love of god. they could certainly work out a sort of gba cartridge hard drive for the DS if they wanted to.

They do have a slot for GBA games on the the DS. I haven't used it, or owned a GBA, so I really don't know how it works.

One thing about Spore is that it's supposed reduce the amount of memory required by using less pregenerated content and having the end user create the content using the game engine.

                      • wow The Spore thread got knocked down quite a bit.

                        Anyway, new video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKODRuDtU_I

They finally added the shadows and better lighting, I was waiting for them to do that and worried they weren't at all. Looks good, I couldn't hear anything as my speakers are off (I'm in work at the moment).

I'm still not sure about the 1st part and last part, they seem interesting for a few seconds, but boring afterwards. I especially don't see how going around planets, picking up aliens, dropping them on other planets is going to serve as entertaining. What would be entertaining is the tribal and civilization parts, those are the two that should be worked on the most.

Seems an accurate prediction to me.

                          • A small interview about Spore:

Not much news there, but just at the ends there's some interesting information:

GN: Are you planning on putting out some kind of demo or beta program?

Patrick Buechner: We are going to release the creature editor portion of Spore in advance of the core game release. Probably several weeks before. We know there are a lot of people anticipating Spore and we appreciate their patience. We really want to give them the game that they're waiting for.

And they say the release date will be after April 1st, but not too long after...
This space is empty... or is it?
