I just noticed that the link to the site I gave in my above post was posted earlier in this thread. My apologies.

Here is a thead worth reading about the official Total War forums:

I'm just curious, I went there recently and I couldn't help laughing out loud. It is one big propaganda fest. They even have a thread celebrating the 'great future of Total:Warrior'. ~ ~ :dizzy2: I wonder if their 'registered users' aren't complete sellouts. Your comments.

In the continuing RTW saga, the message below was officially posted by CA at totalwar.com.

Read it and wonder at the logic being displayed.

Can the end be far behind?

            Patch Campaign
            --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Can I take the time to say a big thank you to the vast majority of users at these forums whose behaviour is outstanding. Their support for the TW series is what keeps us striving to produce the games we do.

We are currently in a quiet period after a major release as we have yet to announce our latest plans for the TW series. As so often in these periods, some individuals turn their efforts to less-than-constructive activities. The guerrilla tactics being advocated by some individuals in an attempt to persuade us to release another patch for Rome: Total War are futile and can only backfire on the perpetrators.

Were their campaign to be as successful as they hope, all it would do is to harm the Total War series. For there to be another official patch, the QA cost would need to be funded by Activision and this is apparently not going to happen. This is obviously beyond CA's control so please stop giving CA grief over this.

I see absolutely no reason to let individuals who are set on damaging the TW series (no matter how good their declared intentions) continue posting here. Why would we encourage such behaviour on a board that we pay to keep running? Continued destructive posting will result in the individuals concerned being banned.

The phrases the message is using are so poorly selected I'm astonished they released that thing. I always thought a PR department would screen these or something to that effect.

They would screen what? Every post by an admin on the forums? I doubt that somehow.

true, they should have left it as the last paragraph only with a slightly softer tone. Still its bad news all around, for them and us gamers.
I hope they(CA) take note and ensure their future publisher is more sympathetic to their IP - TW had been getting a very loyal following, i'm sure this will sour much of that.

When the admin is posting with the "speaking officially for the designer team" hat on, hell yes. People will treat that as the official word from the higher ups.

The logic that CA has expressed in the latest notification amounts to the following:

                      1) releasing another patch for Rome: Total War = harming the Total War series

                      2) those who advocate that CA release another patch = damaging the TW series

                      3) those who advocate that CA release another patch = destructive posting

                      4) those who continue with this destructive posting = being banned

Who can argue with this kind of logic?

Right, right, I agree that people will treat that as the official word from the team, and the thread created in forums in response to the announcement indicates just that. However, reading the post carefully, I don't really see any indication that it is a "news release" or that the guy is "speaking officially". It sounds more like him just venting his own frustration at the negative comments of the crowd. I really don't think this is anything more than the guy just deciding to post a note to shut people up. I really don't see any PR being involved here or anyone saying, hey, dude, why don't you go to the forums and quiet down the crowd.

well one upside of all this is that you can all come back to playing MTW, and then i can have some idle banter as i'm newish to it

It sounds to me like CA have tried to get Activision interested in a 3rd patch and been told to take a hike. On that basis, banning posters determined to spam about the issues is probably a sensible manoeuvre to prevent their forums being overrun by a single issue.
To doubt everything or to believe everything are two equally convenient solutions; both dispense with the necessity of reflection.

The Total War forum where the above notice appeared is owned by the CA Developers.

The Shogun is the guy who posted that notice. He is the forum administrator and is part of the CA staff.

Therefore, The Shogun speaks for CA and the notice is CA's official stance regarding a further patch for RTW.

It is sad, but there it is...

As for me, it means I get to save a pile of money by not having to buy defective games.

MTW + VI with all the available mods keeps me plenty happy.

                                Cheers!
