Yup, i bought it. Saw a used copy for $5 US - at that price I couldnt resist, and it was a good excuse to stop playing Settlers2

I havent really gotten into a game of this type since I played AOE. Im not a huge RTS fan.

Im through the first couple of Terran campaign scenarios.

The actual gameplay seems rather simplistic so far, in terms of resources, units, etc. But then this is a learning campaign, I think, and Im comparing it to the relatively sophisticated AOE.

I really like the way the game tells its story, and the way that story is focused on individuals - you feel like this is the outpost of an empire, not the ENTIRE empire like in AOE. More credible and immersive in that respect. Overcomes the standard RTS gameplay. And oh yeah, the cutscene of the guys in the truck was cool.

It's getting on now, but still noteable as the first game that made a very good job of providing 3 very different but balanced races. The campaign was also a step up from the norm upon release.

Most of it's reputation is built on MP though. The number of people that still play a game that old is unbelievable. A true classic.

I wonder what a Starcraft II would be like.

You think they'll actually make a sequel?

apparently there was just an article in the NYT about how Blizzard has massively increased its work force to handle World of Warcraft. I think they'll take some time absorbing that change, before they make a major new game.

I would stake a lot of money on it.

It's been seven years, so why nothing for so long?

Why compete against your own product if it is still selling?
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

I recently got back into starcraft. I had to force myself to uninstall the game twice (I deleted the broodwars iso the second time so I wouldn't just reinstall it the next day) in order to stop playing it.

                        Too damn addictive.

As for StarCraft 2.... you would think it's inevitable, but Blizzard seems to be working on Diablo 3 now and before WoW they said that their next game was going to take place in a new universe (and then went back on their word, but regardless... it shows that they do want to move on) so it doesn't seem that likely anymore.

I don't think they could ever live up to the original, anyways. There's no way they could make such a perfect game again... especially if you consider what WarCraft 3 turned out to be.

Starcraft 2 will happen, probably after Diablo 3.

And WC3 is hugely successful by any reasonable metric. It sold bagloads. Sure some prefer the 'pure' RTS approach, but I think there is room for both. So do the 100,000s of active players almost 2 and a half years after release.

Additionally, the pro RTS circuit outside of South Korea focuses on WC3, and rightly so, till SC2 comes out.

No, when SC alone was a little more costly the combo pack, sold new, looked appealing. At this price I can later buy the xpack alone if i want to, and its still not a bad deal.
