    How about the opposite, essentially?

M: means takes 1/2 damage (regardless) during that battle (and deals no damage at all), but does 1/2 damage compared to normal when the ship fires again.

    IE:

    MLL-TFF
    vs
    TLF-TLF

the 1st T for defender would do 1/2 damage in the first battle, but then later on during the TvsT battle in the second wave, the attacker's T does 1/2 damage itself.

    If it is
    TLL-FFT
    vs
    MTL-FFL

then the T does 1/2 damage to the defender in battle 1, but in battle 2 (L vs T) the T of the defender does 1/2 damage compared to the normal 1/2 it would do anyway to a laser, so the T fights at cumulatively 1/4 strength. (The 1/2 vs M is regardless of the weapon)

Still can only do 1 M per battle, both attacker and defender can do it. The M always corresponds to a weapon type, the weapon type it is supplanting - ie, if you only have 1 T in your orders, it's supplanting a T and so it cuts in 1/2 the attack/defense value of your torpedo boats. Essentially it's saying your Torpedo boats are spending one of their attack turns running away and avoiding getting hit, and NOT dealing any damage of their own.

Effect on battle: Would help fleets that are vulnerable to one particular type of weapon by removing one of the two chances they're going to have to be slaughtered by it at 2x. Also would help single-weapon fleets take less damage before the second wave - ie if I have a single weapon L fleet, i'll go MLL-TFF or something and do all my damage while taking much less in the first wave.

hehe probably because i've not enough experience to make sense here

I was suggesting taking M and making it a defensive action instead of an offensive action.

You put in an M order instead of an order of one of the 3 types, right?

        so LLT-TFF becomes LLM-TFF, M replacing T, right?

So during the "M" battle, you take 1/2 damage (instead of double!) but otherwise do not oppose the opponent.

Then, during the other battle with that weapon - the one M replaces, in this case T - you get a 50% penalty (do 1/2 damage) compared to what you would have normally done.

Essentially, in this example, during the first wave, my Torpedo ships run away from the opponents, taking 1/2 damage compared to normal damage. Then, when they turn around and come back to attack in the second wave, they do 1/2 damage because they ran away the first time.

            hehe good to know

I fixed the icons and made the 'main process' buttons. You'll run it by
            a) 'delete all'
            b) update spreadsheet
            c) 'fill all'

There's also an all-in-one button, but it won't delete all of the old ones unless nobody built anything that turn so it will probably get deleted.

Now i'll work on the process portions

              Hmm, question.

In alliance combat, all allies use the same OOB, I see. But do all allies use bunched/spread and closein/backoff the same? or different?

All allies must use the EXACT same OoB (including bunched/spread and closein/backoff) or they do not attack as allies.

Ljube can back me up on this one

                  Yes, Sparrow is correct.

Galactic Overlord is really picking up steam now, with both graphics and programming. Now we just need someone to code an AI, and it could become a real game.

                      • hehe ... AI might not be very hard. Who knows

I'm working on the spreadsheet. Figuring out which ships to kill off looks to be the hardest part at the moment ... That may be left up to the GM, but it is probably not that hard.

                        • The largest obstacle to AI programming would probably be the allied attacking and negotiating.

Spreadsheet looks very good so far.

                          • hehe ... well the AI could always go the Civ3 route and just ally with other AI countries most of the time
