  • Actually HotU is definitely SoU's sequel...

    Spoiler:
The soul gem you use to respawn is something you get after escaping from the crash of the flying city through the shadowrealms. Also the whole Deekin thing. And people mentioning your past adventures.

...but it doesn't go on about it the whole time. It would be easy to not pick up on.

    • Yeah I don't know how you could miss the constant references to your Heroic behaviour in Undrentide (and the Hero of Neverwinter as well if you played the OC), especially at the start. Deekin writes a saga about you.

      Plus the confrontation with
      Spoiler:
Mephistopheles (the first one, with no fight)
fills in the one gap, as Jam said.

Plus you can use the same char. And you get all your SoU gear back towards the end of chapter 1.

      I'd say it's pretty conclusive.

thats the sort of thing I was hoping on, and hence the reason Im playing through SOU again. Last time I got to the second chapter but got stuck and frustrated so I deleted my save games.

Pretty smart of me eh? It was a sucky half-orc fighter character anyway.

        • If you want a nice half orc fighter char whack points into strength/con. You can take 8 wisdom and char, 10 int, 13 dex (for feats).

          Use a nice greatsword.

You'll be powerful, but lack AC. You'll need good heavy armour, a nice natural armour amulet, and a good deflection ring. The haste boots from the half orc merchant will help a lot (don't buy anything much till you meet him). Dorna will have some nice cleric buffs as well.

You'll also need potions like clarity potions to make will saves, and Dorna will probably get the clarity buff IIRC.

Dorna can handle locks/traps, but you might have to take the hit on identifying items.

Overall a nice char that wont be too much trouble if played right. And you can take Weapon Master levels later for more ueberness.

          • I was getting pwned by magic.

Not to mention the store prices, having a poor appraise level can really kill your wallet fast. Especially as a fighter since you need to keep stocked up on potions. It makes it hard to buy the cool toys.

            • Don't buy items in SoU. Use gear you find until the haste boots.

Casters shouldn't faze you. Take your clarity potion to help with will saves and run in and, well, mash them.

You must cheat or play on easy, as a fighter I had to frequently reload because I got pwnd by magic users. Then again I never used the clarity potion, never seen one before. (may have overlooked it, I used to think bless and aide added +1 to all saving throws alas I was wrong.)

edit: Just in case Jamski reads this. YOURE A FOOL! hahahaa. check the ED&D char creation thread.

edit2: I never used the henchmen they're a waste of exp. Any locked doors can be bashed and none of the traps are deadly.

edit3: and from my experience in the original campaign they die too easily and are too high maintnance, constantly requiring attending to. Same reason I go lone wolf in Fallout, I hate babysitting.

I play on hard - it's all in the build. Maybe if you drive discussion forward instead of insulting posters by saying they must play on easy (or even worse cheat) as it doesn't work with your build it would work.

As an aside, to edit2, I wouldn't play a half orc fighter if I wanted to solo SoU. A monk, paladin or sorc (played carefully early on) would be better.

I insult you sir, and further more I believe you should start a thread in the OT titled "Space I Challenge You To A Duel"

As for you being able to play as a fighter and not fall victim to the magic users.

My computer must cheat. I always have a will of at least 12 and take luck of heros as my first feat, and iron will as my second.

                    • It is tougher (though doable) alone with a fighter, that's why the high save chars (Paladin and Monk) are great soloists. If you want to solo roll one of those, and if so we can talk builds.

Persisting with the fighter you need to get the items and potions right. Most mages you can invis in and kill them (with the greatsword high strength I advocated earlier) almost instantaneously. Haste (pre boots), clarity potions, bulls strength potions, bless, aid, and fox's cunning for Wisdom (+1 to will save) are all good.

For items you can switch a will save amulet in for natural armour, and just take a barskin potion, which doesn't stack with natural armour AC boosts. Use the magic defences ring for Spell Resistance - this is very important.

For feats knockdown is good against spellcasters (you can even open with this, especially when improved) as they have poor discpline. Make sure to take greatsword focus and specialization feats, and dodge and mobility.

Even on hard it's very doable if you play right.

                      In conclusion, pwned.

                        • Most mages are doing some kind of elemental damage with their spells, so look for elemental resistances.
