      Best Graphics - Half-Life 2
      Best Multiplayer - UT 2k4
      GOTY - Half-Life 2

Interesting... I agree that HL2 had the most beautiful environments, great special effects, AMAZING faces, etc., but Doom3 graphics still looked more realistic to e despite the low-res textures and low-poy models, just because of the lighting and shadowin, which makes the whole thing seem real. Nonetheless, great choices there, and I'd be surprised if anything other than HL2 took the GOTY.
Counter-Strike: Source is the best multiplayer... HANDS DOWN. UT2k4 is kind of lame. Half-Life 2 GOTY? nope... Rome: Total War baby.
To us, it is the BEAST.

Even though strat games are my prefered genre, I think HL2 deserves the GOTY. Notice how IGN said both RTW and HL2 were deserving, but different genres. However, I think HL2 is, all in all, more influental. It will be like HL1, alive for years with mods, it has set new standards for other FPS in use of physics, in modeling faces and humans, while RTW, an excellent strategy game though it may be (not my tastes however), I don't think it can live on like that.

Good point... I think I might agree with this.

I was browsing their other awards... they are spot on with most of their PS2 awards... except for sports... they made "Fight Night 2004" the best sports game. That's crap.

GTA: San Andreas really cleaned up too... GOTW and best action game.
To us, it is the BEAST.

              HL2 is well overrated IMO.

I do think HL2 is overrated... but not any more so then Doom3 or Halo2

Halo2 isn't a game anyway, and I fail to see how HL2 or Doom3 are overrated, both delivering what they were intended to - IMO.

No, it isn't, being console only. Games are what come out for PC, for me .

I think there was good contenders for both best expansion pack and best multiplayer (seems like an obvious choice for that) in the MMORPG genre this year. Maybe even best graphics.
CoH won a MP award IIRC.

Ooh Napoleon would be great. Personally a Total War version of Gemfire would be awesome

The loading times were outrageous and ruined any immersion.

Steam annoyed me to hell repeatedly.

The game is extremely linear, though the open-ended physics would have you believe it's not. The repeated "invisible walls" I ran into when I did something they did not intend pissed me off.

I got stuck in some areas (like where I stopped in Ravenholm), running in circles with no way out. I'm sure I overlooked something, but I got f*cking tired of killing the same stupid zombie-like idiots over and over again.

I was generally unmotivated to continue...

But it's still a game nonetheless.
