  • Oh, and another thing. I know it's a PC game, but so was the original. I remember back then, you could do the barmaids. Not anymore. Shame... I always liked that. Never heard of a celibate pirate anyways.

    • Eh? I definitely don't recall that barmaid tidbit.
      Who is Barinthus?

      • Oh yes, sometimes the barmaid would get mighty friendly.

The original was on so many platforms. I played it on the PC.

            As a C-64 user, I don't recall that either.

            • I got this game from my daughter for Christmas. It's a fun game, but the dancing *is* frustrating: I can build up a good number of hearts, but almost always lose them by a stumble late in the dance.

I can also see where it could become repetitive after a while: go to a town, talk to the governor, talk to the merchant, talk to the shipwright, visit the tavern, leave, go to another town, and repeat.

              • Yeah I've got the game, but I haven't got around to playing it yet. It does look a laugh but a short term one.

                • Okay, I finally got my kid off of it the other night so I could try it. Pretty interesting game. The "dances" are a bit off the wall, but other than that it seems pretty cool. One question however...How do you keep the darn crew happy?

                  • By looting - and a lot.

Get lot's of gold and they be happy - a smaller crew stays easier happy too.

Then of course it's good to divide upo the plunder every now and then. (My shortest vogage has been 18-20 months)

So is it better to divide up a large sum or a small sum? Also, it seems that I lose all my fleet when I divide the plunder. If I am going to do this, does it make sense to upgrade the fleet?

Lots of gold is the key.
You can have a large happy crew too.

                        • Plato,

Before you divide plunder, you should sell all of your ships except your flagship, and sell off everything else too (food, guns, spice, sugar, goods & luxaries); they're all worth gold. Your captured ships should be upgraded too because they are worth more.

Fully upgraded large ship is worth 1800 gold.
Fully upgraded medium ship is worth 1350 in gold.
Fully upgraded small ship is worth 900 gold.

                          • And if the smuggler? in the tavern is selling something, buy it.

Ok, how'd you get so much gold to be able to stay at sea for over 20 YEARS?
