I noticed that high score is depending on the fame points, so I guess if I can achieve more fame points by gaining more plunder, I can still beat my high score at higher levels.
On Yourneyman level, there is a cap of 24 wealth points, which you reach quite early in the game. If I add all the quest points the sum is 125, which is what I got, so I guess there is a cap at 126 for high score at Yourneyman level. So get your Naomi Klein books and move it or I'll seriously bash your faces in! - Supercitizen to stupid students

Yeah, I started a new game on Adventurer to check that. The cap is 24. That means your high score can never be higher than 126 on any level. So what do I play for now, when I already reached 1 point from high score cap? Price on my head?So get your Naomi Klein books and move it or I'll seriously bash your faces in! - Supercitizen to stupid students

So what do I play for now
So did you stop playing Civ2 once you both conquered the world and reached AC? Only 2 games?“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

In Civ 2, high score was based on some %, with no upper limit. I reached 600% before I grew tired of it. One of the challenges with single player games is to beat your high score. So if I've already reached the cap, it will be almost the same game again and again. So get your Naomi Klein books and move it or I'll seriously bash your faces in! - Supercitizen to stupid students

That's a sorry reason to play a game, just to beat your high score (or get the highest score). Frankly, I play games to have fun and enjoy the journey. Not to powergame.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Surely the purpose is to have fun (duh), but I want some kind of lasting record of my achievements, a long-term goal to work towards.
I still have a feeling I played the original too much, so that I'm already fed up with the new release after one week. Haven't played the original in ten years, but it feels like 90 % of the new release is the same game. Almost feels like they started from the old code and just added some new graphics and features. So get your Naomi Klein books and move it or I'll seriously bash your faces in! - Supercitizen to stupid students

Note: The C-64 version and the current game, with regards to generating gold, are vastly different; it was easier to generate gold in the C-64 version. And in the C-64 version, I could capture the Silver Train or Treasure Fleet with ease and often. In this addition, NO Silver Train, and capturing the Treasure fleet is quite a task. Also, cities in the C-64 version had gold amounts in their info screen, no such info here. Cities were wealthier in the C-64 version (I sacked a few that were over 100K). In this one, the largest amount I got from a wealthy city was 9600 in gold.
Gold is certainly pretty easy to come by in the original (especially if you play 1560!). I like the Silver Train & Treasure Fleet, but they really were too easy to capture, so it's good that the TF is tougher in the new game. It's too bad they took the Silver Train out, though. Land battles are also absurdly easy.
Are the lost cities like the old Inca treasure in the original ($100k each time)? I used to love to figure out where the treasure was, get close, divide the plunder, and then go grab it right away, so my new crew was guaranteed to be happy for a while.
Anyway, I'm excited because apparently I am getting a new computer (an old friend has an internet business, says he's sending me a surplus machine he doesn't want/need for Christmas. It should blow my current comp out of the water) soon - hopefully I can get the new Pirates! And hopefully by then there will have been some patching.

In essence all games are about having fun, but there's a score there for a reason. It has worked nicely in arcade games for 25 yearsTo doubt everything or to believe everything are two equally convenient solutions; both dispense with the necessity of reflection.

Bah... the score is just a silly number which should have no impact on how or why you play your game .“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
