I picked it up at my local EB, and surprisingly, there were only four people in line. I have a year warranty on it, and I got the official strategy guide, which is huge, for free, because I showed up so early.

    Rating: (Despite ruining Blood Gulch)

      I'm totally digging this.

I'm farther in the campaign now. As I was playing, this message notification slide up saying "(gametag here) has sent you a voice message"

So I pause the game, hit Y to view my friends list. There's a message icon from him, so I listen to his message. Turns out they were having a LAN party and he was asking if I wanted in on some multiplayer. So he invited me to his Party and we started.

At the same time, my MSN said "(gamertag) has invited you to a game of Halo 2."

      Mwaha.

Not even sure I'll get it anymore, given that

(...) the campaign, at the default difficulty, is going to take an average player less than 10 hours from start to finish.
That's according to the Gamespot reviewer. So there's no point in buying it, since I'm not on Live. I'll definitely rent it, however.

I totally agree. On easy level, it took me maybe four hours to beat. A bit disappointing.

Can't comment on the multiplayer, but the single player definitely comes across as pretty average. I'm not saying it's bad, just that it isn't the most amazingstupendousawesome game ever that most of the reviews are making it out to be. A lot of hype, a medium amount of substance.

As I play it more, I have to agree with you. I rate it a 9.0

JEEZ that's short! And people were complaining about Fable .

There are those who can finish Halo on Legendary in 3 hours flat.

On easy level you can run through without fighting anything. Of course it won't take much time.

The local store had a line going around the block. Not bad for a game I could care less about (not a console player). Probably won't get it on PC either. I guess ignorance is bliss in this case.

Aren't there certain points where you have to kill people? (for example, in the second level, unless you let the Marines do it for you)

There are four difficulty levels, "easy" being the ... easiest. It's much easier than Easy was in the original Halo.

I still find four hours to be a bit short...did you just run through everything?

I'm eight hours in, but I'm on Normal for now.

                            More multiplayer fun on Live:

The warthog is a total blast still. It's one of those things where the voice communicator is essential. While manning the gun in the back, or in the passenger seat with a gun, you can yell at the driver "go back, go back!" and coordinate. It's pretty damn lethal once you've got a fully loaded warthog. Pull the e-brake, slide around and let 'er rip.

I also like the distance-based voice aspect. You can only hear voices from people around you -- or over your team radio. The farther someone is from you, the quieter they are (excluding the radio). Further, when you talk into your radio to the team (hit the White button to start talking on the radio, it stops automatically when you finish), anyone within earshot of you can hear as well.

                              Also: "Parties"

You can create a "Party" and invite your friends, and then look for games to join together. This is awesome for when you've got, say, a group of 8 friends and you want to join a 16-player game. Makes it pretty painless to do.
