      For inspiration when writing up:

Don't forget I have a cloak as well as a dagger - it's essentially a bit of sturdy cloth I use in my non-weapon hand suitable for entangling my opponents blade, throwing in their face, obscuring my movements, distracting their eye, and so forth. I've seen one used in the recent film (made for TV, I think) of Jason and the Argonauts...

For though he was master of the world, he was not quite sure what to do next
But he would think of something

...except beat up on the new guy in a decisive win!

Should be interesting to see what you can do when you are healthy (which is hopefully soon ).

As a member of the audience now, I look forward to seeing how this round goes. No clear favourite that I can see, and returning champions among those remaining...not even sure who to cheer for.

                  /me

                  • There's always a delay between the round-robin and the semis. Wonder why that is?

Battle 1: Emperor Commodus vs. Spacius Maximus

                        1. The battle starts. Commodus seems to be quite weary from his rather astonishing round-robin performance, and Spacius manages to, after a quick series of ducks and dodges, poke Commodus in the shin with his toothpick for three points' worth of damage. The crowd goes silent in expectation - will this be yet another show of hit and run by the "One Hit Wonder"?

                        2. Spacius pokes the tired Commodus again for 3 points, and, deciding he's already stuck around too long, gets on his feet and starts to scamper away from 'the Emperor'. The Emperor, now clearly awoken from his slumber by the prick, err, two pricks, looks puzzled at his opponent running counter-clockwise around the arena away from him. Shrugging, Commodus starts running clockwise. Spacius, not too aware of his surroundings, suddenly encounters Commodus, and his mighty sword, on the other side of the arena. His large shield is no help - he suffers eighteen points of damage.

                        3. Spacius counters this rather outrageously arrogant and bold antibody to his modus operandi by poking Commodus for the third time in the shin for three points, hoping that the third time's the charm and that the scratches will inevitably infect Commodus with a pretty nasty mutation of the pubonic plague. His thinking is a bit too far-fetching, however, and Commodus, shrugging, merely strikes Spacius again for 18 points of damage. After a less glorious ending round of the Round-robin, Commodus seems to be right back in the game.

The first leg ends with Emperor Commodus at a respectful 91 points of health left, while Spacius is taking the role of the underdog with only 64 points left.

Battle 2: Lord Drogue of Antoine vs. Jack the Knife

                        1. Jack arrives to the arena brandishing a new item of gladiatorial clothing, a large dark cloak. Lord Drogue is offered the option to disqualify the item, but he shuns the thought, thinking that the cloth will only hamper his opponents' movements. He couldn't be further from the truth, however, for once the battle starts, the cloak appears to be heavy in appearance but light in weight, and Jack is able to swiftly cross the distance between himself and Drogue, only to produce a set of knives from within the cloak. In a few quick movements, Drogue has suffered 23 points of damage.

                        2. Taken aback by the sudden occurrence, Drogue is paralyzed in his actions for a moment, and Jack is able to reproduce his maneuvre for 23 more points of damage. Drogue's paralysis is shattered, but with a large cost - his chest is already bleeding rather givingly. But with stern resolve, Drogue takes his sword and shield, settles into a melee stance, and finally after a moment of hide and seek with Jack and his cloak, he manages to puncture Jack's right arm for 26 points of damage.

                        3. Jack screams in pain and falls back, obscuring Drogue's eyes by the cloak, trying to cope with only his left arm functioning. A seasoned fighter, he is not completely disabled by a mile, but the suddenness of it all is causing him to go into a modicum of a shock. Drogue manages to take advantage of this pause in Jack's dexterity and perceptiveness and deals a new blow to Jack, although this time with the edge of his sword dulled somewhat by the previous blows against Jack's cloak and the ground, causing not a bleeding wound but serious shock damage nonetheless - for 25 points of damage.

The first leg ends with Drogue at 54 HP remaining and Jack the Knife with 49 points of HP remaining.
