The lock-picking could work like in Splinter Cell.
      And in Theif, and in.......

I hope the beta is 'released' when it starts.

why are so many people going berserk over the game is shorter comment? this isn't directed at you though matth but people over the official board(which seems to have an average iq of 80). morrowind was insanely long but that wasn't the main problem. the main problem was the gameplay was broken and not fun in the long run. i doubt the majority of the players saw more than a 1/3 of morrowind because they got bored. the best thing oblivion could do is nail gameplay and release a great cs. then you'd get so many mods it'd be nuts.

as for the gamefaqs post it sounds believable but also suspect. it really sounds too good to me. regarding the combat comment what i think they mean by that is combat has been improved so it's not so braindead and stat influenced. personally i wouldn't mind a hybrid style of like morrowind and zelda or something action oriented(maybe with an option for old combat too).

cyrodiil(sp?) and oblivion would be enough for a good game. if they just used the island in cyrodiil(the imperial city?) that'd still be fine. that city could be amazing if done right(hopefully theiving will be improved). then oblivion you can basically do anything with.

I suppose I'm not a typical player. I realize that not many people enjoy spending so much time to explore an entire game (I've only gotten through 80% or so, not counting expansions). It would be better to condense it and spend the time improving the underlying mechanics. There's always time for expansions.

Maybe if/when Tamariel Rebuilt switches to Oblivion we'll see something a hundred times the size of Morrowind- where it would be nearly impossible to do the same thing in two different games.

And I'm glad you notices the level of intelligence on the forums over there. I had hoped there would be a welcoming cIV style list that I could contribute to but there's just fanboys with broken period keys.

oh, apparently scans are on the net and that article is probably legit judging from kathode's comment(beth dev iirc) and the fact people have seen it now. if you go here and post your email address you should be able to get the scans(it's in a few of those topics). i'll see if i can see them...

omfg! those scans are amazing! the graphics really are next generation. that's the only way i can describe them. so all that info in that thread is real indeed. i'm most impressed by the forest. it has trees, grass, rocks, and foilage so dense you can only see 20-50 feet. i also like how everything is brightier and not so quake-ish with dark browns. it really looks like you are outside during a sunny summer day. you can almost feel the breeze...

the enemy models look equivalant to the next generation unreal technology that was posted here a bit ago if not better. the draw distance looks about as far as is possible when set to max using mwfps optimizer. i'm not hyped up because i've built up an immunity but it looks at least like they have gotten the graphics to a point of greatness. remains to be seen if they look the same when they are released and if the gameplay is improved. the scans only are of screenshots, not the text, so i didn't get much info on gameplay.

Can you post the link or pm it to me? I'd rather not post my email address on that forum.

                        That cover art is horrible.

                        The scans are impressive.

It looks like it might be moving more towards a traditional fantasy setting.

I really hope they can get the atmosphere better this time around. In Morrowind, in theory you really show have been scared at some points. Or at least meet people who seemed scared.

It seems the screenshots were made with the Xbox 2. If you don't believe me, look a the first screenshot, with the forest.

Good points. Here's my pet peeve: having to practice to improve a skill. Yes, its realist, but most of the time its definitely not fun. Do you really enjoy practicing sneak or acrobatics? Like the song says: jump around! jump around! jump! jump!
