He was actually talking about Civ3

Terror From the Deep wasn't that bad. The first was better in every way, and TFTD was even more buggier than the first, but it was still a pretty good game.

Taking a superb game, painting it a different colour, adding bugs so that some games couldn't even be played to completion and then calling it a sequel...

Oh wait, someone already mentioned Civ 3.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

I guess if you played it first, it wouldn't be that bad.

But it's highway robbery, I am telling you. MicroProse put out this evil, mind-rotting, stress-inducing, computer-destroying piece of binary monstrosity masquerading as a sequel to gyp us off.

                      Civ 2 isn't so great.

It'd would be great if you played it first. However, as a sequel, it's only mediocre.

That part was just a joke.

As a standalone game, Civ 2 is very good. Great even. As a sequel, it's only mediocre. They missed the chance of completely revamping the population model and a few other things.

Exactly. As standalone, any Civ game is great because it is, after all, Civ. But Civ2 did miss some things it could do, added the horrible isometric view, so it doesn't IMO compete for a best ever sequel.

Well some are clearly viewing the thread as best game that happens to be a sequel, not sequel that added the most.

What if the first game was crap? Then the sequel could be much better, and qualify under Solver's or UR's definition, even if it wasn't as good overall as a sequel to a great game, like Civ2.

                                More structure needed.
