  • Bethesda developing and publishing Fallout 3

Good news: Fallout isn't dead. According to Gamespot

Role-playing gamers everywhere got a jolt of adrenaline today when Bethesda Softworks announced that it has licensed the Fallout franchise. Under the terms of the deal, Bethesda acquired exclusive international rights to publish Fallout games on PCs, consoles, handhelds, and other media from its current holder, troubled publisher Interplay. Interplay will still retain ownership of the Fallout intellectual property.

What is Fallout? Why isn't Bethesda bending over backwards to give me Elder Scrolls 4? Is Fallout like Morrowind?

          Wow.......yay yay yay.

Morrowind is my favorite RPG after Fallout. It has a great atmosphere in terms of game interaction (like Fallout) except for not being able to say much in dialog (very much unlike Fallout) and there aren't too many ways to complete things (unlike Fallout) but not completely. But for many fedex quests in Morrowind, there were multiple places to get the item. Not always, especially in some upper level faction quests, but there were some.

            This answers you're question:

According to Bethesda, Fallout 3 will be developed alongside the next Elder Scrolls and under the direction of executive producer Todd Howard. Also, since Bethesda is currently hiring developers for "future-generation consoles," a GameCube, PlayStation 2, or Xbox version of Fallout 3 is highly unlikely.
So we have another good news: Elder Scrolls 4 is in the oven.

Of course it's not going to be the same. But at least it will be atmospheric. Not the ideal company, but I don't really like what Bioware has put out recently anyway. Troika might be best, but it would be up in the air.

About ES4. It's supposedly about Oblivion. From the book On Oblivion:
In preparation for the second chapter of this series, I will be investigating two matters that have intrigued me since I began my career as a daedra researcher. The first is on one particular Daedra Prince, referred to in multiple articles of incunabula as Hircine. Hircine has been called "the huntsman of the Princes" and "the father of manbeasts," but I have yet to find anyone who can summon him.

The other, and more doubtful goal I have for the next chapter is to find a practical means for mortal man to pass through to Oblivion. It has always been my philosophy that we only need fear that which we do not understand, and with that thought in mind, I pursue my goal.

Goody, now Fallout will look really pretty and have enough bugs to make it nearly unplayable . Bethesda desperately needs to hire some PROGRAMMERS to complement its designers.

Morrowind isn't that buggy. Very stable compared to the first release of Fallout 2 at least.

Looking at the ES forums....most people there have bad ideas about RPGs. They see Morrowind as almost perfect. It was good, but it had a lot of things lacking. Meh.

i see this as positive. as flawed as morrowind is it's still a good game. i think they'll have a hard time screwing up fallout as all the have to really do is expand on fallout 2 without breaking it. bethesda has proven imo that they can make sequels at least as good quality as the previous games(look at the tes series). this is really about as good a chance as the fallout series has to continue.

supposedly tes4 was almost shown at e3 so it should be coming along pretty well. 2005 is when it will be released from what i know.
