          • Nuclear Master, but only to save my own ass. I don't actually think it is him. I actually think it is Kalius. And though it really doesn't mean anything, let the record show I was the Mafia last game, and we've only had one back-to-back baddie. It isn't two on my account, I assure you.

That's the perfect cover. I was in and out and offline for the majority of the last game, and I damned near won it.

                            • Chapter 5 – The King is dead, long live the King

The death of Brissot disrupted the agenda of the session of the National Assembly. Instead of the discussion about the war and the new appointments, the first topic extraordinarily became the voting of the National Assembly about the future of the French King whom Robespierre has accused of being behind all of the murders of the last several days. Robespierre came out with two bills. The first would depose King Louis XVI and appoint comte Kalius de Provence as Regent of France, while the second would try citizen Louis Capet in front of the National Assembly for his crimes against the state and on four counts of conspiracy to commit murder.

Unexpectedly, the Assembly supported both bills and King Louis who came to the Assembly planning to address it before the expected election of General Napoléon Bonaparte to the position of the Commander of the French Army suddenly had to change the nature of his address.

“Citizens, countrymen, brothers! I am not the vile murderer. And I am King by the will of God! You can’t spill my blue blood!”
“We’ll find out if your blood is blue or not soon enough”, replied Danton who was among those who cast their vote against the King.

And Nuclear Master was taken to Place de la Révolution and guillotined before the record crowd. Curiously, his blood was red.

Later that day Kalius was proclaimed new King. He took the name Louis XVIII in honour of the late Prince Louis.

                              Meanwhile at the National Assembly.

“Now is the time to act decisively. It is obvious that we can put an and to murders organised by the royalists only if we establish the reign of terror”, Robespierre started his famous speech.
“What do you mean by reign of terror Robespierre”, Necker interrupted him. “I won’t serve as Prime Minister in a government that would use terror on its own people.”
“So you will not. And mind that your immense wealth is very suspicious to us revolutionaries. It appears you have gained it by corruption while you were in office. And you are not French, so I don’t see why we would keep you as Prime Minister”, replied Desmoulins.

“It is the age of wisdom, it is the age of foolishness, it is the epoch of belief, it is the epoch of incredulity”, Hébert started his speech. “And I think we should move to relieve citizen Necker of his duties as Prime Minister and appoint citizen Mirabeau as new Prime Minister, general Napoléon Bonaparte as new Commander of the Army, Georges Danton as new Minister of Justice and Maximilien Robespierre as new Minister of Interrior.”
And the Assembly accepted all Hébert’s proposals.

                              Robespierre concluded the discussions.
“Let the reign of terror begin. And virtue. Virtue, without which terror is pointless. Terror, without which virtue is powerless.”

                              *******

Later that evening the former Queen Marie-Antoinette was waiting for her cousin Fürst von Metternich in a café at Place de la Bastille, their agreed meeting place. She waited for about an hour and since he wasn’t coming she became worried and started to look for him. While she was passing Place du Carroussel, she spotted a terrible scene. Her cousin Geomodder was lying dead, half naked, his arms and legs tied, gagged and flogged to death. It was too much for her so she screamed and then fainted.

Later when the others came to the scene, former Prime Minister Necker woke her up using aromatic salt.
“Oh my poor cousin Metternich. You bloodthirsty mob! Now you see the killer was not my husband! And the murderer is obviously bent on exterminating the royal family. Oh monsieur Bonaparte! You are the only man I now have confidence in. Please don’t let anything happen to me.”
“I shall appoint private Chauvin to serve as your personal bodyguard. I shall not allow anything to happen to you.”

                              Napoléon then turned to Chauvin.
“You’ve heard me. You are to stay with the queen 24/7. You must never fall asleep or loose the queen from your sight.”
“Yes Sir!” replied Chauvin and also thought “She is a very pretty lady. I guess it’s not such a bad job after all”, but he kept his thoughts for himself.
“Have you examined the body for clues?”
“I have Sir, but I found no clues whatsoever. This sadistic murderer is a calculated one. And very careful. He never leaves a single clue.”
“Damn it! OK, never mind, we’ll get him somehow.“

“Napoléon”, Guillotin approached the general. “I have concluded my examination of the bodies. I’d like to meet you tomorrow if you have time and discuss about it.”
“All right monsieur Guillotin, let’s meet some time tomorrow. Let’s say noon in my office.”
                              “Agreed. See you tomorrow then.”

Everybody left the scene, except Feld Marschall von Blücher and Marie-Antoinette.
“Haben Sie keine Angst Maria. Ich werde ihnen helfen. Sie werden ihre Unruhe gleih vergessen.“
„Was sagen sie, Herr Blücher? Sie können mir helfen nur wenn sie meine Ausweise beshaffen können um mich nach Österrech zu flüchten.“
„Genau so Maria. Herr Jefferson wird ihre Ausweise machen und Sie können Frankreich morgen verlassen. Treffen Sie uns bitte in einem Kaffee am Platz der Revolution.“
„Einverstanden mein libliger Blücher. Also, bis morgen 7 Uhr nachmittag.”
„Ja, sieben Uhr nachmittag Kaffee Stock. Bis morgen, aufwiedersehen.“
