  • I'm also one of those people who explore every single area and attempt to do every single quest.

some people only care about the main quest, and anything that is necessary to achieve the main quest (for example- you can't continue the main quest in Baldur's Gate 2 unless you get 15,000 gold- well there is another way...but you get my drift)

    • Well in KOTOR and NWN I did the vast majority of the quests. If BG is like NWN in that there are loads of books with FR background in them lying around, I didn't read many of those though.

      • DOn't bother with TotSC. It IS a tack-on.

Which is strange, because it was obviously planned from the beginning (if you look at the CD holder case, you'll notice that there is a VERY convenient pocket folder just for ONE other CD

personally, I thought that Durlag's Tower and the Wizard's Tower made the expansion worth it. Though the basement of Durlag's was one of the most tedious experiences I have ever had in a 'good' game

        • Well I have restarted BGI with Tutu, and it's loads harder than the first one! I started two games, and died at the cut scene where you and Gorion are attacked. One of the assailants casts a spell that you have no chance of dodging or even attacking them beforehand and since my characters only had 1HP (low CON & ordinary rules) then that killed them. I learned from this, and put the rules on easy, got a Kensai with 2 longswords and 18-18-18-10-10-10 after a decent roll, and am at the Friendly Arms Inn. Well, I last saved on the edge of the screen before it, but it crashed when I tried to leave so I gave up for the day. I even loaded the Tutu tweak, and it promised that you could buy katanas from the start, but I wasn't able to.
Even when I picked up Xzar and Montaron we were attacked by 12 xvarts and my 5HP character bought it pretty soon in that fight. By my character does about 14 points of damage with a decent hit.

          • It's supposed to stay at the same difficulty. Are you sure you just didn't get some bad rolls?

            Comment

            • Maybe it was just the way I wasn't too bothered about having a CON higher than 14. With an elf and a half-elf both getting just 1HP then I wasn't going anywhere with those games. It's a bit harsh given that BGI has you do a runner before any of the enemies can hit you. It's a cut scene! You shouldn't be able to die!
Also, some of the spelling on Tutu is pretty terrible, but never mind. That's exactly the sort of thing I'd pick up on. My destination has turned into the Friendly Arm Inn, so I have no idea what happened to all of the other arms. Maybe they were cut off by a kensai with 2 longswords.
I know I can't wear armour as a kensai, but can I wear wizard robes? That would be nice, at least to get the protective powers of the magical robes.

              • Actually, with the extra specialisation and character types, I found it easier. Being able to duel-wield, with the extra 2* in it for a Ranger, made my character very powerful, even just using maces and warhammers, as he was to be dueled to a cleric near the begining of BGII. Still need to play on with him, as he's not got *that* far into BGII, IIRC.
                Smile
For though he was master of the world, he was not quite sure what to do next
But he would think of something

                • Well as I said, my character does 14 or so damage at level one, though he does have STR 18. He gets 5/2 attacks per turn too.
THACO's not all that at the moment, but when I start picking up the tasty magic weapons then things are going to go very nicely. I have to remember to turn Imoen into a mage much earlier this game. I'm not even sure that I'll need Khalid or Jaheira, but a cleric would be useful, even if she is a druid.

                  • Heh, a Kensai-->Mage can wear wizard robes for übercheese.

Ah yes, I should have said... in TuTu you'll always get the hardest random encounters, regardless of level. Stick with it, and once you hit level 3 or so you're pretty much on top of things.

                    • Is Limburger an übercheese?

An interesting point, but which level would you recommend dualling at? I was hoping for a whole string of weapon stars for 2 weapons, longsword and eventually katana too.

                      • Level 9 for the HP or level 13 for the extra half-attack.

But by the middle of BG2 a Kensai-Mage is SO powerful...

                        • I still need to know about the cheese!

Should I give up on ever getting weapon mastery on katanas then? I don't know what the smithy in Beregost stocks with the Tutu & tweaks, but I know that there are a decent selection of longswords in the first game, and doubtless potential for more in BGII. I had a +3 and a couple of +2s in Chapter 5 in my previous game, so this could get a bit messy for those foolish enough to stand in my way! +=:muhahaha:

Don't think you'll find many good katanas in BG1 btw

                            • No, none whatsoever I'd imagine. Fair enough if the tweakers can put katanas onto the shopkeepers' shelves, but to put extra treasure down, etc would be a bit much.
So I'll stick with 2 longswords for the moment.
I think that I have no chance of becoming a K/M with an INT of 10 though. Would a potion of genius work?
I'll end up finding myself in a similar position to that I do in NWN, where I'd love to be an Arcane Archer, but my INT isn't high enough to learn the required spells.

[edit]Aha! A fan of blue cheese. If it wasn't for the clear evidence in all your posts then I'd swear that you were a totally decent chap!
