    Hi folks

I have some great news for you all.

Today i have placed my own server at a local hostingcenter.
This is done because im selling more online services than ever before and i want to begin insourcing some of them to increase my profit

It also leaves room to set up at subversion server and all the other things we might need when i get the time.
Time is the biggest factor right now for me but ill try to at least get subversion running one of these days.

I will need an application from each of those who would like/need acces to this service, containing a statement that you agree to comply with the Activision licsense and what username/password you want.
    Please send this to klaus@kaan.dk

Ahh the good old issue of CVS... I can't exactly remember anymore, was it agreed that we can set up a CVS server without violating the Activision license?

I think it is in the FAQ somewhere that we can put it on version control, as long as we make sure that all users has agreed to the licsense agreement for the source code.
Please someone correct me if im wrong.

I've just spent some time putting updates into a subversion server locally incrementally (i.e. each posted patch individually) from early in the development, so if you want to take advantage of this to improve the history in the server, let me know.

Well, I haven't finished yet (I'm missing some of Fromafar's patches), but I think it's worth doing - for example to enable us to (more easily) undo the change that's causing this big slowdown in AI turns. I'm sure they'll be other similar things. It's nice to have proper author credits too, and properly associate the changes with the description of what they do.

When I finish I'll let you know. At present I'm awaiting a response from Fromafar about the files I'm missing...

So have i, with the same problems (some missing patches, not up to date). If there's any interest, i could merge the remaining patches and provide a dump, too.
                    I used the following properties:
                    • apolyton_src (Name of sourcefile or copied repository dir)
                    • apolyton_postid (Id of posting where the src came from, if any)
                    • apolyton_url (full url to the posting, if any)
                    • svn:author (Apolyton username (including spaces, special chars)
                    • svn:date (Post date, if any)
                    • svn:eol_style (Policy: native for sources, CRLF for the rest e.g. *.txt)
                    • svn:keywords (Keyword expansion for cpp sources)
                    • svn:log (Post message, sometimes shortened)
                    • svn:mime_type (I think only been set for plain text files)

ctplinuxfan: i didnt know that properties existed like that, but i think it sounds like a brilliant idea and im very much interested in merging when your done

to the rest of you: im wondering why noone other than solver has applied for access?
It is running and if it is to have any value we need to start using it.

Hi Kaan, just out of interest is this server suitable for hosting a MP server?

I ask because the only server we have has gone down again and its beginning to get frustrating, especially when you get kicked mid-game.

I wasnt sure if "all the other things we might need" included a MP server or if the server was upto to the task or indeed if you even wanted to attempt such a thing.

Im sure that im able to run a gameserver on it, but im not sure that i want to?

The thing is that im paying for traffic rather than a monthly fee and i have calculated what it might cost to run most of the thing we need for development and that is within acceptable limits. Can you give me an estimate of how much traffic it would generate to run the MP game server?

I have no idea, but since anet servers support at least 3 or 4 other games I'd expect too much to pay by traffic. I could find out though.

If there were no servers left it might be possible to pool some money from CtP1/2, Battlezone, Heavy Gear and whatever other communities, but since we still have one theres no need for anyone around here to pay for the traffic. Thanks anyway.

I have reserved 1 gigabyte of data traffic a month for ctp2 related stuff so please investigate.
