I can also say that the first patch indeed improved performance, fixed a few problems with the food, hammer and gold symbols on the map, fixed the options menu. And some spellings.
My biggest problem was rather unrelated to the game: Enough time. But there are a few things I found. Problems with the localization, to the options screen two more options were added, but all these options say is "German". Someone forgot something here. Problems with umlauts, even after the patch some strings contain instead of an umlaut a replacement symbol.
I only try this with the version out of the box but if I try to make sure that the save game name really contains my name than the result is that the game doesn't find it. I have to replace the 'ü' by 'ue' to make it work. Actually I have to insert the 'ü' to make sure that it contains my name.
And now let's come to the gameplay. For the start I decided to make it easy for me, to get to know the game. Therefore I decided to play on an archipelago world, so that I am not bothered with the rest of the world too much. But then I had to figure out that my little island was surrounded by deep ocean. So I had to develope a technology that allows me to build ships that can travel over deep ocean.
As usually the first deep ocean ship is the caravel in German 'die Karavelle' that is in contradiction you find it in the database it is female not male. Anyway looking at the database the authors have no idea of German grammer. I hope that doesn't matter.
Let's continue. I was there sitting on my tiny island with three cities ready to bring my settlers to the surrounding islands, just waiting for this marvelous new technology that gives me the caravel that brings my settlers to the new islands so that I can extend my German Empire so that it can grow and prosper.
But what's this! I bring my new caravel to my waiting settlers and let them go on board but wait they don't go on board they don't do anything. What that the caravel doesn't hold its promise bringing some brave men and women to a new lovely place where no German has gone before to found a new city.
Instead of extending my empire the only use for my new ship was to look around in the world. A lot of science was wasted and I had to wait a lot more turns to get a real ship.
Indeed there is something broken.
