One suggestion, which might be worth a try:

Changing the "Apolyton edition" to a style which looks more like burned into the wood? Only a suggestion
I agree, this might look very good.

Excellent work even without any other changes

So we really don't have to worry about things like that -- if Activision was out to screw us they wouldn't have released the code in the first place.
Be assured that if they find reusing the name and art annoying first they will kindly ask to remove them or pay for their use before they proceed in any form of legal actions
Besides they released the source code and not the artwork so we can improve the code and fix the bugs and not modify the artistic material and despite that wouldn't probably hurt at all - especially the note that the material is not supported by Activision - it doesn't negate the fact that the artwork is probably not part of the EULA thus subject to copyright issues. Distributing along with the modified source code parts of the artwork that was not released to public could be illegal.

Now you simply add to what I have already stated, that propably there won't be any problem at all with that. All I say is that we should be aware that using the same name and art could be illegal

Besides it would make it more interesting and legal to use our own artwork for the graphics that must be modified to reflect code changes, we honor the agreement and we don't violate copyrights and proprietary material. And if the artwork is good, who knows, we could get hired from a gaming company

Maybe a bit more, (haven't got an example) so that there is more '3D'-depth and the 'borders' looking more burned.

                • While working on that part of the graphic I looked at both darker and lighter variations. What was shown is what looked best IMO. Darker looked too black and hid the wood textures, lighter made the type harder to read. Anyway, the final file has been passed on to the proper authorities. If there is enough complaining I'll post variations.

                  • I like it as it is - excellent work for something aparently knocked up in short order! I'm impressed

Now if its possible - would you be able to add a 'load Mod' button to the vacant button space on the right? Is this a good idea? I'm just thinking for newbies the whole using Modswapper(which has been an excellent utility) thing could be removed with a direct button on the menu screen? thoughts?

Will you give the guy a rest?

There should not be a need for a load mod option, as from now on mods will be able to use the scenario structure, as they were always intended to. In other words, once the existing mods have been 'moved back', you can start a mod the same way you start a scenario.

                          • Started messing around with the buttons and here's a screenshot of what the final result looks like in the game.

Note that the new buttons don't actually work yet, some changes in the source code will probably be needed for that (as Peter noted in the other thread), I'll see if I can get around to that later this week, if noone beats me to it.

                            • Here are the files in case someone wants to mess with them: upsg001.tga overwrites the default image, spnewgame.ldl places the buttons and ldl_str.txt (english version) makes the text non-capitalized.

MAKE BACKUPS of your old files first, 'cuz the new buttons don't work yet as I noted, so you won't actually be able to start or load SP games with this setup.
