I could start to take a look at this. As a starting point, can someone let me know where in the source the code is for showing the turns til growth figures on the map (I guess the new code will be similar to this), and also the code for one of the city/production/national mgr/city summary screens (or similar), so I can figure out where the code gets build queue information from?

    thanks!

Anyone have an idea how much of this can be done in the LDLs?

Not much, actually not at all, since you have to make sure that the whole thing is compatible with low screen resolution, and for that you need the current system. So you can only add an extra screen for the higher resolutions. Of course you can the build hirachy from root stuff to make the whole thing as moddable as possible from the *.ldl. But nevertheless you have to code.

I feared as much. Maybe making a city screen the size of the great library screen and trying to cram as much as possible might work, but looking through the screens I think one cant avoid coding to improve the screen. in the meantime your modal screens work great!

Another thing you have to keep in mind is that this huge city screen cannot handle multiple build queues. So you would still need the other screens.

Well, I got a new computer with a nice big screen (using 1680x1050) so I was playing around with this stuff and this is what I've come up with. I cut the screen save down to less than 1/4 of it's size; hope you can make out the details.

Here's a better shot of the citywindow. Basically I just wanted to get rid of all those tabs.

Wow, looks good so far Peter

The only thing I don't see is the specialists tab from the National Manager (top right window), did you scrap it?

Do you plan to add anything new? There still plenty of space in the City Manager around the garrison and specialist areas. Maybe we could make these areas more attractive as Mr Baggins suggested earlier in the thread?

                      • Now that is nice Peter.I recall your work from other mods too and how much you have added to CtP2.

                        • I may as well post this here...

I made some thicker borders, they also have a kinda isometric look, so you see more of the border that is closer, but the border behind is still visible a little.

I also fixed some of the spaces and removed bumps that were in the original borders.

                          Original:

                          Thicker:

If E doesn't mind we could put them in the "smooth borders" option instead of the current ones. My first attempt was to improve those, but it's quite difficult to create random-looking sides with curves without it getting messy between civs. It's also impossible to make corners curve and sides straight with only 4 sides.

I also wanted to try and create a kind of fading effect on the border like Civ4, possibly with transparency, but I don't know if it'll work yet.

                          • i have no problem. after hours of messing with it many months ago i gave up trying to make it look perfect. it'll take some code work to get the fade like civ4 I think.

PS did Peter post his new city screen somewhere?

AFAIK no. He had a hard drive crash and lost some (all?) of it, but I think the screenshots he posted were after that, so hopefully he still has something.
