    A windowed mode should be doable. I don't know enough about that kind of thing to know how easy, and it likely depends greatly on how the display code works at persent.

    If you have the source code you can modify the programm as you want, as long as you have enough time and knows how to do it or there are enough people who do it for your. The real problem is that we don't know what the problems are with XP and therefore it is not easy to find them.
