    When they get close to surrendering, it should tell you whether you need to attack their cities or their armies.

    Tamerlin,

    No-one else has mentioned weird messages, so I think it might be that you've got a wrong strings file somewhere.

      Could it be because I have a French version of the game (before someone asks, yes I have copied all the CtC files from the English folder to the French folder)?

      As I told it before, the problem is that the game is rather difficult to play without all those messages.

          There might be a way round the problem. Your CTC_Strings.txt should look something like this (this is the AOM one):

          #import "Strings.txt" # Strings: This file

          import "add_str.txt" # Addon: String additions should temporarily reside here. Strings should be moved from here to where they belong. This file should be gone by the time we CR.
          import "AOM_civ_str.txt" # Civ City Ruler Names
          import "dip_str.txt" # Diplomacy:
          import "err_str.txt" # Error: None of these will be localized so it would be nice to have them out on their own
          import "exp_str.txt" # Explanation: Reasons for City (Un)Happiness and Civ Points
          import "AOM_gl_str.txt" # Great Library: Terms and Descriptions
          import "AOM_info_str.txt" # Info Message: Includes Drop Down & Instant Action Messages. Trade could go here
          import "junk_str.txt" # Junk: Trash can for obsolete strings that need to be there for the executable. Programmers should delete things from junk_str.txt
          import "ldl_str.txt" # LDL strings: Migration from LDL
          import "tut_str.txt" # Tutorial:

          #SAM022299 added for cheat tools
          import "cht_str.txt" # Cheat Tools

          #JBR08031999 added scen_str.txt
          import "scen_str.txt"

          #REM101999 for new diplomacy system
          import "AOM_dip2_str.txt"

          #BMH040800 added for tooltips and status bar text
          import "tips_str.txt"

          import "feat_str.txt"

          import "tut2_str.txt"

          import "cut_str.txt"

          import "AOM_text.txt"

          import "AOM_NewDiplomod_str.txt"

          If you were to get copies of all the english text files which CTC doesn't normally override (For AOM this is add_str.txt, dip_str.txt, etc.), give them CTC prefixes, put them in your ...\french\gamedata directory and edit CTC_Strings.txt to point to them then you should have exactly the same strings database as all the other players, and that might stop the problem. Of course, you'll have to cope with all the ingame messages being in english for CTC...

          (A simpler way to achieve the same thing would be to overwrite your french texts with theenglish ones, but obviously there are bigger disadvantages there...)

            Thanks for the answer J Bytheway but I don't have the original English files.

              There is perhaps another solution, my CtP2 CD-ROM does not allow me to install CtP2 in another language because the installation language is defined in a file called anet.inf on the CD-ROM. Perhaps is it possible to copy all the files on the CD-ROM on a Hard Drive and then to change the ID# (4 in this case) of the language used during the installation process. If a native English speaker could give me the number of the language used in his anet.inf I could try to install CtP2 in English.

              IMO there isn't any chance that it works but it is worth a try.

              Here is the content of the anet.inf file :

                    Ah yes... just as I remember it.

                    We certainly do have quite a massive army! Large troop formations all over!

                      We could do a bit more expanding(by non-military means), there are at least two good potato spots. The one South of Pedi and the one Northeast of Thembu. Not sure if we really need to but if we ever have the production to spare we might as well.

                      South of Ngwak would be good too, so we could take advantage of those mountains.

                        I agree. I was sending that stray Settler down south, aiming to squeeze him between the Canadian and Egyptian borders and settle quite a ways south.

                        I think he was in a southern city of ours when I ended my last turn.

                          Thanks HuangShang.

                          [EDIT] It does not work, the English files seem not to be on the French CD-ROM. [/EDIT]

                          Could someone zip me the English files of the original game?

                              With regards to expanding by ourself, we're close to the city limit now so I would say lets keep expanding by force, so we get cities ready built and grown already for us.

                                If we can get the Canadians to capitulate and meld into our civ, that should bump us up the power graph quite significantly.

                                I'd say at that point the other would have a tough time toppling us. Having said that, I have noticed in this particular mod they do like to team up...
