If this happens in the default game as well as with the medmod then you can try installing the latest playtest version (here) - that's compiled with more recent DirectX libraries, so it might help. Of course, the MedMod probably won't work properly with that version of the executable, but it would be nice to know if the problem persists.

        Hey ADG

Have you tried running the game with the graphics acceleration turned off? So your graphics card isn't being used(I often use this when getting 'oldies' to run).

You may have to use 800x600 to play the game, but it's worth a try(If its not happy completely set to off, try going half way).

to get to it: (you probably know how, and this is for W98!)

        1.right click on the desktop

        2.select 'properties'

        3.click 'settings'

        4.click 'advanced'

5.click 'performance' - use the slider to set how much power your graphics card is providing.

worth a try if you haven't already.......

I haven't tried to set the graphics acceleration off (or just lower), and if that's what I need to do to get it working, I'd better just make this game 'bite the dust', since I don't want to turn it up-down everytime I want to play something else...
And as I said, I've already tried to change the screen-resolution...

I haven't had time to look at J Bytheway's 'solution' yet...

Are you running the music from the HD or from CD?

You might want to try to alter the priority for the music-thread. Could mean that your system 'hangs' when loading into the buffer. I know that on my old beast sometimes this happens when playing from CD.

So try first with switching off music and if it helped, try it with different priorities.

I played the music from my HD...

I wont be able to play this game for an unknown time, since my computer just crashed (or maybe burned is a better word)

                      Well my solution(if it works) is quicker(it takes 3mins including a reboot-that on my P166!) than J Bytheway's one
And it will eliminate the problem being your graphics card or your monitor as far as CTP2 is concerned.

I've never heard of this kind of problem with CTP2 before, but on older titles it's often a first port of call i try if i'm getting display problems.

I had lots of fun with getting a reasonably stable game of Daggerfall - and this helped one of my problems

Still this is not much help if your pc has moved of to computer heaven(or BGates hell?) - and maybe the problem was just a symptom of bigger problems? Dead Pc's are no fun

I didn't have any special problems before, so I was defently shocked by this... If I have had some random reboots or something before, I might have understood, but this doesn't make any sense at all...

... but on the other hand, since I'm using a older windows I can now play the older games I haven't been able to play before
