This game was a small island game with these mapsettings: Wet/Dry: 60%; Warm/Cold: 40%; Ocean/Land: 10%; Island/Continent: 0% (all relative small islands); Uniform/Diverse: 100%; Few Goods/Many Goods: 100%.
Mailed to me from thehappies
Ok. I've known for a while that I was probably dead.
But it's beyond certain now. So congratulations!
That was a great game and you've given me an
enlightening lesson on the use of SOL's. I never
realized how devastating they could be.

Was ahead in science most of the game - but he wasn't able to produce enough units due to the size of his nation (both number of cities and population).
Furthermore I did some "shopping" among the AIs, conquering 1-3 cities size 3-4 from each AI. A rather dirty and cheap trick, but it boosts your growth . And as long as you have just a little more advances than the AIs, then you are able to decide when to end those skirmishes, so no problems with them .
I can recommend him as an excellent opponent with a very high turnrate (119 turns in less than 2 months). There will be a rematch soon.
