To start off,
I move the sliders to maximize growth and production, sacrificing science and gold.
In my river cities I build settlers, and nothing else until I have forty cities. In non-river cities, I usually start off by building a granary, to increase growth. In between a settler build I will usually build a defensive unit, more for happyness than protection. This depends on land of course. Depending on the situation, I may build growth tile improvements early on, but usually I focus on getting 40 cities. Once I have enough settlers for 40 cities, I will finish building any granaries and also construct aquaducts and caravans. I will also have 1-5 turns where I set the pw % to 100, I build as many growth and production improvements as possible. When mills become availible I build those. At this point I usually find myself behind in science and adjust sliders to try and catch up. In shorter games I will pump out cavalry when they become availible. In longer games I usually terraform to increase production. Hopefully I win.
My observations of your playing style I have a few recommendations.
You don't need to build so many defensive units and walls early on. (At least playing me), if a human player was close early on then it would be different.
Your not aggressive enough. I don't think you have assualted me yet in any game we have played. You need to build more growth tile improvements.
Thats all I can think of of now.
Keep in mind my strategy usually results in some sort of internal mayhem, usually happyness or money related. Without wonders I'm almost always behind in science.

ok
so you dont worry about slavers?
walls prevent them
maybe build a couple to spot them?
as for assault no
your right
unless im close i dont see how i could put up and maintain and keep a war ongoing without faster units and a lot of them
I hardly ever use walls. Slavers aren't much of a problem, just build a few yourself to counter them. Walls do provide extra defence, but usually they only slow down the inevitable. Of course there are situations where walls would be helpful, at chokepoints, perhaps an extended war with no clear winner.
