I heard a loud voice, I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! It's rider was named Death, and hades was following close behind him. They were given power over one fourth of the earth to kill by the sword, famine and plague.

here here. I've never actually started a game with a bunch of people from the beginning. i've only ever subbed in. i does take a while to get going though. are we sure there is no way we can salvage this? Is there anyone with "technical expertise" that might know what is going on?
you can use keygens fast start to give the start a boost.

I tried emailing mathemagician about the problem . . . he seems to know things that I don't . . . maybe he can enlighten us as to what's going on before we totally abandon this. if not . . .
If we do restart, it would be good to use some modifications Math made, which notify of bombardments, city growth and empty build queues after units are built.
Just don't even think to again start on Deity level!
We don't play against AI here, so you are same Macho playing Deity or Chieftain.
Only difference is, Deity is terribly SLOW.
I'm here five years and have finished only two games with five or more players.
If we'll consider another start, I suggest King or even Prince level. With six players we'll maybe finished game in year and half then.
A response from mathemagician about the "unplayable turn". I think he has it figured out:

Hi Aaron,
It's good that you asked me about this problem because, I'm afraid,
it's
actually my fault.
Can you tell me who started this game in the first place ? Was it
ricketyclik ?
I see that the first player (dark blue) in this game is named Birdman.
Did
he start the game and Milamber took over for him ?
The problem seems to be this:
A long time ago, I built a special SLIC file for the game that gives
messages on city growth and bombardment events, as well as empties city
queues after any unit at the end of the queue has been built, not just
for
settlers as it is in the standard SLIC file. So far I assumed that only
the starter of a game needed to have a modified SLIC file for it to
apply
to the whole game. So I told other people, like ricketyclik and
possibly
Birdman (can't remember though) that it was safe to use my modified
files
and enjoy the luxury of additional messages for their games. I
excpected a
few screwed up text messages here and there, as these were the only
problems I had with testing the SLIC file.
But it seems that CTP is much more sensible to SLIC changes than I
thought. Apparently, under some circumstances, a player still needs the
used SLIC file after the start of the game. I tested the saved turn
with
the original and the modified SLIC files and only with the modified
file
can I end the turn successfully. Maybe one player has to use the same
SLIC
file for the entire game, even though the SLIC code is assumed to be
carried on with the save games. So if e.g. Birdman (with the files) was
replaced by Milamber (without the files), this may have caused the
problem.
I'm sorry that I was wrong with that assumption. There is, however, a
rather simple way to deal with this situation. I attached two ZIP files
to
this email. They are the modified SLIC file, plus another SLIC file
used
by it, and the original SLIC file of CTP 1.21, which most players are
using. Any player who wants to open Milamber's turn can copy these file
into their CTP main folder and unzip the respective variant before
opening
a game turn for "Civilized World" or any other game. The ZIPs will
extract
the files into the appropriate CTP subdirectories and ask for
overwrite,
which you can safely confirm if you have made a backup of the
"script.slc"
file in your \ctp_data\default\gamedata folder. Even if not, backups of
both versions are in the respective ZIP files. You just have to extract
the ZIP in the CTP main folder, because the ZIP includes the correct
paths.
I hope this helps. Also, I'd be curious to know who started the game
and
whether he was using my modified SLIC files for it.
Good luck !
Rainer

So it would seem that we can continue this game if Milamber wants to use the zip files that Math sent to me. Apparently, the rest of us must have them without realizing it or we must have some other SLIC modifications that make it work. I'll send the files to Milamber and see if he wants to use them. If not . . . we start over.
