HackerFlub looked at his assembled ministers , " Report!"
Foreign Affairs spoke first, " Sir, the comm channels are quiet. The Drones have made some vague indications of repercussions but have never specified anything despite our requests that they do so. We are in accord with our treaty obligations with them regardless of how we deal with the Gaians in any event. The Morganites have been silent and we hear that the Peacekeepers have commenced a committee process that should issue a preliminary report in 2115. The Gaians have been silent as usual although sources indicate that the mood of their people is pretty grim and more and more Gaians desire to join the Angel faction."
Hackerflub nodded " I think industry, and then the joint chiefs"
The industry minister presented a detailed holovid extolling the productivity of the Angels empire " As you can see our production of minerals, energy and technology is the envy of the world."
Finally the joint chiefs reported in turn
"As per standing orders, all naval units are patrolling home waters."
" Pursuant to Operation TreeSquasher, our helicopeter forces have mobilized to grid 23 . The relocation occurred without incident"
"Seven new police units have been trained and are fully operational .. . ."
"The 13th Marines have embarked to Suvla . .. . "
" The 23rd achieved an "elite" standing in the most recent exercise ...."
" Scouts report no forces in grid 24 or 25 . .. . "
The reports continued until it was the turn of the SEcDEF to summarize.
"Sir the Angel forces enjoy a high level of training and the best equipment on Planet. Morale is high and troops report a high level of contentment among former Gaian citizens. We continue to upgrade our forces with a view that no armed forces with a view to being prepared to deal with all anticipated threats. You don't get to 300 losses without being a pretty exceptional goaltender.-- Ben Kenobi speaking of Roberto Luongo

TO ALL PLAYERS PLEASE READ AND RESPOND
SebP has asked that I raise this issue.
It arises as Trotsky has indicated that he has real life matter that have greatly impacted his desire and time to play this game. To his credit Trotsky has indicated that he would dutifully play out his turns but also indicated that he might just hit "End Turn" to quicken his fate.
This was of concern to SEbP. The prospect that the Angels might annex the entire Gaian empire far too easily in the circumstances could "ruin" what has so far been a very competitive and interesting game. On my side, while I like winning, I prefer tough and challenging games more. Getting the gaian empire almost unopposed would be a huge game-breaker IMHO.
Based on trotsky's last turn that he passed to me , it was obvious that Trotsky had not taken all or even half of the sensible military steps he could take to resist my armies more effectively. I expected to see military being built in every base. Don't get me wrong, Trotsky's military situation is pretty hopeless for any player but he could be doing things that would make things much much tougher on me.
So as a group we have to think about the following:
1. Should we let Trotsky off the hook here? If a guy is just playing from a sense of obligation, I would just as soon thank him for his efforts and move on. It actually seems win-win since Trotsky can deal with his real-life stuff while we probably get a better game as a result.
Assuming for the moment that we agree that its best all around to let trotsky go, I see two potential options
A. We try to recruit a replacement to play out the Gaians remaining few turns. It actually would be an interesting replacement job but probably not very rewarding since the role would be to fight hard in an extremely difficult situation. BUt we could probably find someone willing to play a few turns of intense combat. I would be willing to let a replacement replay TRotsky's last turn.
B. WE could ask Trotsky or we could ourselves arrange to eradicate all the gaian bases in a ritualistic suicide. This would reduce the game to 4 players. I have seen this done in several games and actually consider it a reasonable response by a player. Seeing they are defeated, they choose to deny spoils to their enemy.
Personally I have no preference. Option A should give me the fight I anticipated while option B is always something an opponent could choose to do. If we chose OPtion A I wouldn't be surprised if a defender chose to eradicate some bases as a means to focus their defence. I also have no preference as to which is better for my faction. A fight means I get some bases after some time and unit losses while eradication means I can focus back to economy with some sweet preterraformed locations.
In my view the other factions should choose the option that they think is least good for the Angels in their own self-interest. If you can think of something else , please suggest it
OK--- WOULD ONE OF YOU EMAIL THIS TO TROTSKY PLEASE-- I won't be able to do it myself for hours and I want to make sure he sees it. If I misunderstand things and he really wants to play, that is the end of the issue. But if we can release him I think thats best.
Assuming that Trotsky does not state a strong desire to play this out, IMHO the choice is between you three as to what we do.
I don't care and if you three pick whatever you think would be least beneficial to the Angels, thats fair IMHOYou don't get to 300 losses without being a pretty exceptional goaltender.-- Ben Kenobi speaking of Roberto Luongo

Well thats two for A-- including the two stongest factions so unless Drow has really strong objections that will be the way we go unless Trotsky pipes up with a strong desire to finish this
I say we wait until Monday to see if Trotsky responds. In the emantime does anyone have any thoughts on a replacement. WE might be able to get any one of the currently active players to help us once they understand its not that big a commitment
I would prefer that it NOT be one of the other players in the game but beyond that, I don't care much who it isYou don't get to 300 losses without being a pretty exceptional goaltender.-- Ben Kenobi speaking of Roberto Luongo
