Oh and don't let the powergraph fool you-- I have prioritized population growth ( at the expense of infrastructure) and we all know how the powergraph over-emphasizes population.
Once the game is over, I will share saves with anyone that wants though and you can see how standard and routine it was ( well unless you try to avoid overlapping base radii)You don't get to 300 losses without being a pretty exceptional goaltender.-- Ben Kenobi speaking of Roberto Luongo

Two of my bases are working fungus, and currently have no mineral output. So basically I'm waiting till they grow to two before sending workers to the forest to gather minerals for the Colony Pods. It's eight turns before both of them grow, and will take another eight to complete the pods. The best of it all is that they are my second and third base (I managed to "start" with three colony pods). Talk about bad decision making and idiotic base placement...

-Someone has to play as an extra...
Do you try to use "perfectionist spacing" and not overlap base radii? Or did you pop pods before you have your bases down and have fungus wipe out good tiles?
Its just that your situation sounds so very bad that it surprises me. While I did find that it was hard to find a tile that was not adjacent to fungus, there were decent enough tiles around the start position. Once this is over, I would be very curious to see your start position. I am wondering how many good workable tiles your capitol has, versus these other bases.Last edited by Flubber; September 4, 2006, 08:24.You don't get to 300 losses without being a pretty exceptional goaltender.-- Ben Kenobi speaking of Roberto Luongo

Hmm - I took a long time getting my bases down, I've got massive overlapping to make use of decent tiles (something I've never done before). I'm not prioritising anything at the moment (build\growth equally), since I've not played a PBEM before, and I'm hoping to decide exactly what to do a little later on.
Right now, places for later exansion are looking damn near non-existant, and scouting's not much of an option with FM (do Probes count here, or are they free to explore?) and fungus barriers.

You guys probably noticed that I am in planned anyway. I have pretty much found a fungus barrier to cross in pretty much every direction I'm betting its part of Darsnan's attempt to guide us on a builder theme. Its a lot tougher to mount a ground invasion if you have to cross 2 or 3 separate patches of fungus to get to an opponentYou don't get to 300 losses without being a pretty exceptional goaltender.-- Ben Kenobi speaking of Roberto Luongo

Read vel's strategy guide on turn advantage. Every turn you delay getting a base planted hurts. None of my bases have a base radii all to themselves. . . . in fact the overlap is QUITE extensive.
I have seen many arguments on this board about the ideal or best base spacing and I have accepted none of the schemes. I simply put bases where they fit best. In the very early game that means a 2 nut tile. By this stage of the later early game, having a forest ready to harvest is equally appealingYou don't get to 300 losses without being a pretty exceptional goaltender.-- Ben Kenobi speaking of Roberto Luongo

ive tried to place bases in nice spots thts probably why im the lowest fraction at this time
i think it ws a bit silly of me to go for "perfect base spacing"
i changed my se goal and i ended up lousing more than i gained it took me several turns to corect that too
i have just started to build up the areas around my base beacase of the aformentioned change
its alot more hmm is tactical ? the right word but im enjoying every minute of it
anyway turn to mid

1- Getting greedy. I thought that if I explored enough, I would come across some nice landmark (monsoon jungle )
2- Upon finding nothing of interest, panicking and placing my bases immediatly, instead of returning to the relatively good starting position (I sort of took vel's advice to the extreme of absurd).
Edit: I almost forgot - I used those rover colony pods to pop unity pods, and lost one in the process.

Thanks, Flubber. You know, it never crossed my mind that a forest might be a good square to work off the bat. Meh.
