Well the map was smaller and the AI's researching lots of useless techs kept our costs low which helped.

I don't have infiltration on Setroc, so I wouldn't know, but is he making much greater labs than us? Also, he can't be in control of all 120 workers and surely is behind on supply crawlers as well?Comment

but yeah, he's really beating you guys for tech rate and i'm getting nervous (as ever) about my lead.
Yes he can senethro, PTS + nerve staples and with the land on this builder map being so great there's plenty of 2nut squares (especially for you guys on the western side having more rainy) to make sure the base doesn't starve on its first turn allowing it to quickly spawn more bases.
I can't remember comparing his crawlers to yours but i'd guess higher, 2-3 workers on forests and the rocky mins+mines means he's starting to produce them rather fast now and his amount of formers is well ahead of you two.
I wouldn't say the situation is "utterly hopeless" but with no tech trading to allow others to cooperate against then Setrocs really in a 85% likely to win position now unless he decides to do something like planetbuster a worm near his HQ (go on do it !! its fun !!

To be honest, my position on the power charts doesn't represent my position in the game (a crawler here is almost as effective as a pop point, but this isn't reflected on the charts). The important thing in an ICS, as we all know, is 100% use of tiles. The PTS doesn't help much on this front. It has helped a lot with speed of expansion, but even on this huge map, that isn't going to last for that long.
As for controlling my 120 pop, its easy on this staple-happy map. Yes, I've had to build more scouts than others, but since riots are delayed by however many staples I can apply, it hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be.
That said, I was 3rd for good reason, and now I'm at least as strong as Laz, so it obviously has had a profound impact. I don't think I can keep a hold of that advantage for too long though.
Let's not forget here that I'm a noob - Laz is still the guy you have to worry about
