I have played in several PBEM as Pirates (notably the "Clone Wars" PBEM, as well as "Unfinished Business"). And of course I designed the one SP Challenge involving the Pirates which I playtested extensively.

So, is it looking more like the Spartans would be the Faction of choice (even though Googlie was part of that team during the last demogame?)?

Ah, yes - the ACDG3 Spartans. I learned so much from Maniac that game.

(Also, one of my most enjoyable, though, alas, never finished, games was as the Spartans on an absolutely inhospitable planet (arid, rocky) with MoSe, Aredhran, Vel, etc. Got a great pact with MoSe whereby I was the shield to his (Morgan) research labs. Only lasted about 100 turns., but was awesome while it lasted. IIRC MoSe got to D:AP in about turn 45 or so, and by year 75 we had Elite Shard interceptors in all our bases

      • Spartans. That would be cool with me. I always wanted to learn how to play them...

So it's The Spartans! So far it's 1 step smaller than a huge map, and each chopper can only attack a base 2x per turn. Anyone else have any ideas?

Oh, and as in our present game, I hope that we can agree that cooperative victory is not allowed. This is the one condition that will prevent me from playing so I hope we can agree on it again.

All right! Sounds like a plan. Anyone have any thoughts on a name for the turn tracking thread? Best I've come up with right now is "All Things Spartan". mart7x5 has told me he can set this game up for us if we want. I'll wait till things get finalized, then let him know what we're interested in.

np with there being only one winner - I think thats perfect for a Spartan game, eh?
I'll look into my preferences and post them this evening.

I'll make some Spartan clones that we can use that will at least give different colors to the factions

Any AI? How about 3 University factions in an unbreakable pact - that'll give some impetus to our warmongering - or maybe 3 Hive factions in a pact - that'd be pretty formidable as a counter to us

Or a University/Morgan/Hive troika, with the first 2 subservient to the Hive. That'd make them really formidable, being gifted techs and energy credits for all the latest toys

              edited for typos

              • Are Spartan clones necessary? Can't we just use the SMAX quirk where a faction will appear to be whatever was in its slot in the previous game? So my Spartans can look like The Drones and someone elses look like The Hive, etc, no?

I seem to remember that in previous tries with multiple Spartas, the black gives a problem.

I'll fire up a scenario to see how it looks

I think it'd be nice to have some cannon fodder (besides Chaunk) to blood my units on. Also, taking Maniac's queue, any interest in having mart7x5 insert some units that are "AI only", meaning that they are enhanced units that only the AI's can build? I can give some examples if there is any interest in this.

I'm currently experimenting with a scenario where the Uni's get the two thugs (i.e. Drones and Hive) as "Protectors" (i.e. the Hive and Drone domains provide a protective barrier to the researcher Zak). The Uni's then research, which they then pass on to the "Thugs", who can then really crank out the enhanced units! Anyways, just some suggestions for mart7x5 on this, as well as bouncing some ideas off of you all.

                      • Just as long as I don't have to download anything into my game folder, I'm fine with AI tweaks. One warning. Googlie and I are presently playing in a PBEM where the AI got juice up with various chemical weapons. This lead to early global warming which was a real PIA. I really dislike it when my micro-managed terriforming gets undone. So, CMN, please be aware of unintended consequences.

Ah yes, I'm sure that this sort of situation could lead to "Uncharted Waters" (and note - I chose this title. Perhaps I should have infered more strongly as to why I chose this, eh?).
Anyways, its a good thing that CMN have advanced much further than this first attempt at Faction Modification, although this "situation" may have planted a seed of an idea with the last ACDG Spartans...

                          • An interesting side note re UW. Both AI have surrendered to me but they refuse to stop fighting with each other when asked to do so. Another perhaps unintended consequence.

Kudos on the EG As I understand it, this enables Mr Warrior to talk to all of us, yet does not allow us to talk to each other until we meet each other by a different means. Is this correct?

Will comment re: Game setup later, food has just arrived on the table.

                              Edit:

With four of us playing the same faction, I'm happy to go huge if the majority desire it. Huge isn't so huge with elite rovers. However, it does eliminate the rover rush (As does large to be honest) which kinda cripples the spartan faction a little more.

                              Tiny would be interesting though

Re: Ai, I'm happy with whatever the CMN suggests, although I'd like to throw in the idea of 3 spartan ai. It could be interesting...

Hmmm...an all Spartan game, with the AI perma-pacted. Yes, why not? We might call it: "Fractured Faction".

Oh and BTW, commlinks with EG are one way. (My way )
