Hmm…this leads to an interesting question regarding when commlinks are established: Oh say, for example, that a 0-1-2 probe team fell thru a dimensional rift and thereby managed to covertly probe/infiltrated another player's datalinks. Does this “contact” establish a commlinks connection between the two factions? If so, is the probing player obligated to inform the probed player of the new commlinks connection?

Yes and yes I think. I've started contact with a human in a PBEM before via probing, although with a foil probe not a pod pop. The player probed may notice by themselves of course, since they'd have the commlinks to trade (Assuming the probing player hadn't met the other players in the game).

Of course, there's no obligation to inform the player the method of commlink creation, merely that it has been created. I could then imagine a paranoid player trawling all the fungus near his bases looking for rovers etc

Yeah, seriously, that's why I dislike playing The Hive. The research is so slow. There are specialists out there who love playing this faction but I just don't see the appeal myself.

This is my 1st CyCon PBEM. Just like the Gaians, I really love their +2 efficiency. I'll have to try these guy again some time soon.
