SMAniaC PBEM game?

Anyone interested in a multiplayer game with the latest version of the SMAniaC mod (see sig)?

Best would be four or five players I think.

If only inexperienced PBEMers apply, I'd be willng to have a try at CMNing myself.

I'd be interested in doing a PBEM, never done one before through. from what I understand, it mainly consists of passing a save file through email, you play your turn, then pass to the next person, correct?

I think ill play sparta assuming people dont gang up on first tier factions or alternativly PK.

Your mod looks interesting, is there a way I can use the mod for one game and also play an un-modded game? If there is, I'm up for this.

you could do the easy thing, just copy+paste your whole smac\x folder and install the mod in the copy. or you can get a program to switch mod files but 200 meg is so small to me, i dont mind copying

Like Kataphraktoi, I just have a second copy of SMAC (folder named SMAniaC) in my Firaxis Games directory, with a link to the terranx.exe on my desktop.

As for the program that switches mod files: ModMan
I've never used it as I don't need it, but others have with succes.

Myself I'm thinking about playing one of the new factions: Atlantis.

^Need HAB COMPLEX for bases to exceed size 4: {Small bases are most likely to remain undetected}

The AI always knows the location of all your units, so using deep pressure hulls (or subs in other words) is useless in single player games. This means this faction can only use its full potential with human players, so I thought I'd try them out here.


As for the map size, my vote would go to a standard-sized map.

I wouldn't advise a smaller map than that. On tiny and small maps, everyone gets bonuses on growth and production: there are respectively only eight and nine minerals in a row. This messes up the whole social engineering system as for example +1 SE Industry only gives -0.9 minerals per row, rounded up. No effect in other words.

If there's a majority for a large map, that's fine with me too, but I'd definitely not prefer a huge map! I'd actually like to meet some people in the first century of the game.


For CMN, I was thinking about asking mart7x5. Is that ok? I've heard he makes great maps. If the Super AI files are used, there wouldn't be much AI boosting necessary (Darsnan or Googlie specialty). Just have them start with their two bases already founded (so they don't go wandering to the other side of Planet) and give them a couple formers to start with, and they should do just fine until we humans start some massive popbooming and outgrow them.

Mart works for me I like his maps.

I take it we are using your new 7 factions+all the current factions, but with only 7 of them active. I havnt actually gotten around to DLing them yet
