BTW, D, would Secretary-General be a better leader job-title for the UN Forces? I mean, You might want to use this alongside the New Spartans, and he's a General, too, unless you go with Marshal for Zhukov...

Originally posted by Buster's Uncle View PostI gave the faction the full name of “United Nations Peacekeeping Force” in the pcx credits. In-game anywhere space is at a premium, just “United Nations” ought to serve, though variations like “UN Forces” and “UN Peacekeeping Force” are good, too. D, I credited you for names and concepts- from what I gather of your interests, you’ll love this one more than most.
Originally posted by Buster's Uncle View PostWith a last name like Haj, he HAS to be Muslim. Adaman doesn’t pin him down much ethnically, to my ear- the Jihad spread Arabic and Arabic names all over. I don’t know what you had in mind, D, but I look at his complexion with the hazel eyes I left alone, and think Afghanistan. Afghani-Canadian, of course. The little flourish I added to his mustache goes with that, too, I think. The only other thing that’s come to me about him is that off duty he drinks a wee bit too much.
I like the thought of him being an Afghani: is there any chance you can make his headgear more traditional in that sense?
Probably going offline for the evening - am training hard for a 10 miler next month and I overextended myself a little today.

I’m flipping through my alt. factions mentally, and the Flower Children are the only ones coming up where you didn’t pick the picture and/or give a name and/or an idea to get me started. And I didn’t credit you on that one, either. Even for the Intellect, you at least picked the faction to do, but maybe it counts, too. I dunno.
Ideas are powerful and valuable. I want credit for what I do, and you should get your due, too.
I like the weathered, determined look about the man, like he's thinking "its Democracy/Green/ Knowledge, or else theres gonna be trouble!".
I knew you'd like him.

Pity taking the little wedges out of the edge of the hat didn't show up more. I'm sure I'll have cause to revisit the notion, though. I doubt he's my last contemporary/past military officer to make faction leader.

Pawkul hat
I found the hat below with minimal goggling. Much better than a turban, I think. It would only call for an alteration of the existing hat, too. I wonder if I can pull off keeping the bill?
You’re right about western styles, but they’ve conquered the world when it comes to uniforms. IF I CAN pull off keeping the bill, it’ll be another style-fusion, look more like a uniform cap, and do more to make it strange and futurey. I hope.

I think you should change Haj' background. That's a map of the Belgium/Lower Rhine area in case you didn't know.
I think it’s arguable that he’s just got an old map on the wall- or maybe he fought there in WWIV or something- but I’ll look into it.
The simplest thing would be to do a modest recolor to make it a map of somewhere on Planet, and alter the course of the mighty rivers a bit. I can do that.
Good enough?

(…Also, there's a bayonet behind him, and those haven’t seen a lot of use in combat since before the Civil War, but okay.)
I’m looking at the attached shot as the Rainbow Warriors leader. I’ve tarted up much less usable shots before.
I think he’s a Finn, in which case he wouldn’t tend to like Zhakarov or Zhukov at all. Finnlanders are typically quite gloomy (the one I went to college with was very rude, too,) and transliterations of their names have wonderfully strange spellings. I’ll have to research a good name.
I’m gonna go work on Secretary-General Haj now (and try to keep my hands off Mrs. Obama for now) before I mess with this one.
...So you’ve got a little time to chip in.

This was not that hard to do; just time-consuming.
The original hat was too big for his head, and the perspective was not good. Those didn't help any in making a fusion of a pawkul hat and an officer’s cap. The one on your left below is an earlier stage I include chiefly because the indentations around the top stand out more, and because it has the original proportions for comparison. The one [in the middle] is perhaps the finished product. [But perhaps not.] Had to draw in more of not-Belgium when I reduced the hat
I don't think [the middle one] looks all that good taken merely as a pawkul with a bill. But it's not near so western as before, and is very strange- he's even more of a space general now.
Well gentlemen- am I done?

I’ve added new version to the line-up above, right. It needed the rolled-up hatband wider to work as a modified pawkul at all. The perspective is improved, too.
Of course it would help if I ditched the insignia, but I’m reluctant to do that- it would look too little like an officer’s cap then, and probably enhance the German Navy look it’s in danger of taking on.
Really; am I done with him yet?
like he's thinking "its Democracy/Green/ Knowledge, or else theres gonna be trouble!".
Now to decide between more Eye of the Beholder and giving Mrs. Obama dreadlocks…Last edited by Buster Crabbe's Uncle; April 12, 2009, 11:19.

Those CFCers are a lot friendlier.
While I'm more into strategy, I do appreciate the work you're doing. I just don't have much to say.

It's really tough to be a grown-up about it.
A post like yours here and there helps.

Well, I do like the smaller hat size, but the size of the band does not make much impression on me.
