    Well, it would hopefully take out some of the more annoying bugs SMACX had, the AI would hopefully be better (or at least it wouldn't get any worse ), SMACX is exposed to a much wider audience, some of the improvements of Civ4 can be applied to SMACX (for instance, good borders), good SMACX ideas can make Civ4 even better (For instance, replacing silly civics with good social engineering)....

    it isn't like it'd be *completely* pointless.

      Perhaps we all need to take a lesson from the modding community that the Command & Conquer games have...
      - The invention of the rules.ini files since Red Alert allowed people to add in new units/structures... but not much gameplay changes.
      - When engine limitations became too much for some mods to handle, some programmers got into the assembly code of the game(s), manually adding in extensions that could be taken advantage of.

      Is it not possible to do something similar with this project?

              Yes. A bit on the sidelines until more citysets are available, but yes.
              (I specialised in cityset xml'ing the last half year)
