The terrain textures are free to use, change, replace.
I downloaded the latest file and it looks fairly nice.
There are some gameplay issues though. I lost money every turn and I couldn't figure out why. There is also limited resources. And terrain improvements come way too slowly.
There is also some problem with the cities having names like: TXT_KEY_CITY_NAME...Don't rule me out when I'm losing. Save your celebration until after I'm gone.

This is an incredibly sad day. I rarely come to Apolyton anymore, even though I started with the Ultimate Civ Site before it merged with The First Greek Civ site to become Apolyton. This in and of itself is a total shame to see so little happen over here anymore. civfanatics just has so much more content and more active forums. But I haven't found much mention of a SMAC mod over there. I really wish I could offer services, Python is something new to me, and CGI is so time consuming. I'm but an old school modder from the civ2 days. Piddled around with modding Civ3, not that much different. Probably time that I caught up with the.... uh... times.... and learned some new coding. I really hope to see this mod happen. Even if it doesn't have quite the same game mechanics, just a good alien world mod would be wonderful for Civ4. Lets see what really happens with this. I'm sure the demand is still out there for this. Do you guys check much with the CivFanatics community? Will be stopping by much more frequently to see where I could fit in. Thanks for the work though, best of luck with all your modding endeavors.

One of the side issues here is that CFC, while significantly more active, has never had much coverage for SMAC. The SMAC players have always been here. As a result, although CFC has produced several large mods, I haven't seen so much as a mention of a possible SMAC mod over there, and I check the CFC forums nearly as much as Apolyton these days.Solver, WePlayCiv Co-Administrator

Well, here's the latest SMAC-mod related thread on CFC, but that is in planning so far, not active development, as far as I understand.
As much as I love SMAC and Civ4, I think a good mod would need significantly more than a recreation of the SMAC rules and concepts in the Civ4 engine. Because that would, in essence, be just a remake of an 8-year old game with newer graphics, which wouldn't really have anything that the original SMAC doesn't. A better mod, IMO, would also expand on what SMAC had, but that would naturally be even more difficult to create...Solver, WePlayCiv Co-Administrator
